This winter, something simple, yet powerful happened in Northwest Edmonton.

Through Winter Together, PASS partnered with the City of Edmonton - Local Government to mobilize youth and adult volunteers in support of households facing winter mobility challenges.

What stood out was not just snow removal but the model:

• Youth civic engagement in action
• Neighbourhood-based volunteer mobilization
• Winter safety awareness as social infrastructure
• Recognition reinforcing community care

Programs like this demonstrate how municipal collaboration and local organizations can strengthen both physical safety and social connection during Edmonton’s most demanding season.

Winter Together is a community initiative led by PASS (Prairie Alliance for Settlement & Support) in partnership with the City of Edmonton. Through winter safety education, neighbour-to-neighbour support, and the Snow Angels volunteer program, we work together to ensure that seniors, newcomers, and families feel supported during the colder months.
