Over the past couple of weeks we’ve shared the story behind Driven to Renew — where it came from, the heart behind it, and the people who helped bring it to life.
If you missed part of the series, we’d encourage you to scroll back and watch the story from the beginning!

Today, Chris and Shelene share a conversation about what could be possible if more people came alongside this mission.

Driven to Renew was never meant to stand alone.

There are incredible people and businesses in our city — counselors, roofers, plumbers, tradespeople, and professionals of all kinds — who genuinely want to give back to their community.

Sometimes the challenge isn’t the willingness to help… it’s having a clear way to do it.

That’s where partnership comes in.

By coming together with others who believe in this mission, we can extend support further than we ever could on our own — reaching more families and meeting more real needs along the way.

The hope is simple: that Driven to Renew can become a place where people who care about this city can come together and make a meaningful impact.

Today, Chris reflects on something that’s been hard to ignore — the growth we’ve seen in just the first four months of Driven to Renew.

When JumpStart first began over 13 years ago, there were 13 applications in the first three months.

In DTR’s first few months, we’ve already seen more than 50.

It’s a reminder of two things.

First, the need in our city is very real.

And second, the potential for this model to make a meaningful impact is bigger than we imagined.

Chris’ hope is simple: that people across Edmonton would rally behind this mission — and one day be able to look back and say,

“I helped make that possible.”

Part 5.

Today, Chris shares what makes Driven to Renew different. There’s a gap that often gets overlooked.

The families who aren’t “broke enough” to qualify for assistance…
But aren’t making enough to absorb a major repair without it turning into a crisis.

That’s where we fit.

And beyond financial support, there’s something else that matters just as much — connection.

We don’t just process applications.
We do our best to know the people we’re walking alongside, to understand their story and to treat them with dignity.

Chris shares how important it is that we never lose that — that people always feel they can connect with us, not just apply to us.

Security changes your perspective.

In today’s video, Chris shares something simple but important — he recognizes the privilege of having steady work, being able to pay the bills, and even put money into savings.

And with that privilege comes responsibility.

Not guilt or obligation — But responsibility.

The belief that if you’ve been given stability, you can help create it for someone else.

Driven to Renew exists because of that mindset — that when you’re in a position to give, you don’t hold tighter… you reach further.

That’s how community works and this is why we keep paying it forward.

Shelene shares how she’s lived what many of our applicants are walking through right now.

She’s been the single parent.
She’s felt the pressure of living paycheck to paycheck.
She knows what it’s like to carry responsibility and wonder how everything will come together.

And today — alongside Chris — she’s able to extend the same kind of support she once needed.

That’s the heart behind Driven to Renew.

From hard seasons — To shared strength.
From needing help — To being able to give it.

Part 2 of our series.

Shelene shares something that has been in her heart long before Driven to Renew ever had a name.

She’s always wanted to be part of an organization like this.

Why?

Because she has a deep compassion for people who’ve had it rough — because she knows what that feels like.

At the core of DTR is this belief:

You are not alone.

There are people who care.
There are people who see you.
There are people who want to help.

Driven to Renew isn’t just about repairs — it’s about reminding someone that they matter.

Thank you for following along with our story.

This is where the story starts.

Chris shares about growing up in a broken home, struggling with addiction, and living in a cycle that felt like “take, take, take.”

When his life changed, and an opportunity came to give back — it felt like a no brainer.

Use the tools around you.
Rebuild what’s broken.
Help someone else get a second chance.

That’s where Driven to Renew began.

In this “off camera” moment, Chris shared something that stuck with me — that if people are going to stand behind Driven to Renew… they deserve to know who they’re standing behind.

Not for recognition.
Not for spotlight.
But for trust.

DTR exists because we believe community works best when it’s built on transparency, conviction, and real people with real hearts.

He ends this clip with something that honestly summarizes this entire series:

“It’s a very simple way for us to share our heart.”

The full series begins Monday.
We’re inviting you into the story — not just the mission.

Over the next two weeks, we’re sharing something a little different.

This is the beginning of a short video series introducing the heart behind Good News Auto and Driven to Renew — Chris and Shelene Ferland.

Driven to Renew didn’t just appear out of nowhere. It was built from years of conversations, convictions, risk, and a deep belief that businesses can exist for more than profit.

In this first video, Chris shares what Driven to Renew means to him — and why the transition from JumpStart to DTR mattered so much.

This is just the beginning of the story.

We hope you’ll follow along. ❤️

Just one of the many ways we’re able to help people through Driven to Renew.
This vehicle was made safe and reliable because of a partnership—people and businesses coming together to step in when the burden was too heavy for one person to carry alone.

Your generosity is what keeps the momentum going. Whether it’s $5 or $500, every gift matters and every dollar helps restore stability, dignity, and hope.
Would you consider partnering with us today?
