🍩 Celebrating International Donut Day at Edmonton Centre of Hope! 🍩

Last Friday, our participants and staff enjoyed a sweet celebration of International Donut Day.

Since 1917, donuts have held a special place in Salvation Army history. During the First World War, Salvation Army "Donut Lassies" served fresh donuts and provided comfort, encouragement, and a taste of home to soldiers serving overseas. Their legacy of compassion and service continues to inspire us today.

We were delighted to carry on this tradition by sharing donuts, smiles, and fellowship with our community. It was a wonderful reminder that even small acts of kindness can brighten someone's day.

A sweet day was enjoyed by all!

Red Dress Day at ECOH

Today is Red Dress Day – National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and LGBTQ+ People (MMIWG2S).

This day is a time for reflection, awareness, and solidarity – remembering the lives of those who have been missing and murdered, and supporting the families and communities who continue to bear this pain and fight for justice.

Indigenous women in Canada are at significantly higher risk of violence.
According to Statistics Canada, between 2001 and 2015, the homicide rate for Indigenous women was nearly six times higher than for non-Indigenous women.

At ECOH, we pause to acknowledge this reality and reaffirm our commitment to the respect, safety, and dignity of all people.

❤️ No more stolen sisters.

✨ Earth Day in Action at ECOH! 🌎

This Earth Day, our teams came together across sites to care for our environment and make a real impact in our community. 💚

Staff and participants kicked off the day with a stretching session and important safety information, ensuring everyone was ready and safe for the activities ahead.

The day was filled with fun activities, scavenger hunts, prizes, and refreshments, bringing energy and excitement to our clean-up efforts while engaging everyone in a meaningful way.

Together, we collected a total of 223.8 lbs of waste:

Grace Village and Grace Manor: 118.8 lbs
Transitional Housing Program Downtown, Men's Recovery, and Miywanohk: 105 lbs
From large clean-up efforts at Grace Village to contributions across other sites, every effort mattered. These moments reflect our shared commitment to stewardship, teamwork, and creating cleaner, healthier spaces for everyone.

A big thank you to all staff and participants who took part in this meaningful initiative—your efforts truly make a difference! 🙌✨
