The Confucius Institute in Edmonton (CIE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the educational, cultural and economic ties between China and Canada. The CIE has been promoting Chinese culture and education in Alberta since 2007, and was recognized as Institute of the Year in 2011, 2013, and 2018.

In April and May 2026, 1,999 students participated in Chinese proficiency examinations. These students are enrolled in the Chinese Bilingual or Chinese Language and Culture programs at Edmonton public schools and Calgary public schools.

January and February were a whirlwind of celebration for the CIE! We were honored to serve as a key partner in sharing Chinese heritage across Edmonton—whether we were leading professional workshops on EPSB PD Day or engaging with the public at the massive ECBEA and CGAA Lunar New Year festivals.
