Starting July 2, our government is finally getting rid of fragile paper health cards and moving to one secure card for everyday services and programs.
Albertans renewing or applying for a driver’s licence or ID card will now have their personal health number added to the back of their card.
Eligible Canadian citizens will also see a citizenship marker added to the front of their driver’s licence or ID card.
This means no more carrying multiple pieces of ID, worrying about paper health cards falling apart, or digging out a birth certificate to prove your citizenship.
The new cards come at no extra cost, include enhanced security features to help prevent fraud, and make accessing services simpler for Albertans.

Today, we recognize the importance of accessibility and the contributions of Albertans with disabilities in communities across our province.

Accessibility helps ensure that everyone can participate fully in everyday life, whether at work, school or in their local communities. Red Shirt Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the barriers that still exist and highlight the importance of creating accessible spaces and services for all.

Wear red today and join the conversation about how we can continue to build communities that welcoming, accessible and responsive to the needs of all Albertans.
