❤️ Over 1,000 pet care packs distributed for Petsgiving. More than 700 in Edmonton alone. 78 emergency packs delivered in the bitter cold. And behind every single one is a person and a pet who needed a little help. 🐾

As temperatures drop, the need for support continues to rise.

Our teams have been working tirelessly to ensure vulnerable pets and the people who love them have access to essential supplies, food, warmth, and compassion.

These photos represent more than numbers. They represent families trying to stay together, individuals facing difficult circumstances, and pets who depend on us to show up.

But we cannot do this alone.

Monthly donors are the heartbeat of Parachutes for Pets. Their ongoing generosity allows us to respond when emergencies happen, reach more communities, and provide consistent, compassionate support when it's needed most.

As temperatures begin to drop, our Angel Team is preparing to support some of our community's most vulnerable people and their beloved pets.

Homelessness doesn't have one face or one story. It affects seniors, families, working individuals, and people from all walks of life.

Just this morning, our team connected with a senior woman living in her vehicle, a reminder that we never truly know what someone else may be going through.

🐾 Petsgiving is happening TODAY in Calgary and TOMORROW in Edmonton!

While we're coming together to support our communities this Thanksgiving weekend, the need doesn't end when the holiday is over.

Filled with essentials like pet food, warm blankets, bowls, and other supplies, these packs play a vital role in helping people experiencing homelessness and financial hardship care for their beloved pets throughout Alberta's colder months.

Buddy needs our help.

9-month-old Buddy was hit by a car and is currently in the ICU, receiving oxygen and around-the-clock care after suffering significant trauma to his lungs.

The circumstances surrounding Buddy’s accident are heartbreaking. His family was already experiencing a serious crisis, and in the chaos of medical professionals responding to the emergency, Buddy slipped out the door and was struck by a vehicle.

Right now, his lungs are our biggest concern. He needs continued oxygen support, intensive monitoring, pain management and time for his little body to heal.

❤️ At this point, we only have an initial estimate for Buddy’s emergency care, and his treatment is far from over. His current veterinary estimate is approximately $5,000, and that cost may continue to rise depending on his progress and the care he needs as treatment continues.

The encouraging news is that Buddy has a good prognosis with supportive care. His family is already carrying more than anyone should have to at once, and we want to make sure the cost of saving Buddy isn’t another impossible burden placed on them.

Buddy deserves the chance to heal and make it home.

You may remember that a few months ago, Paws for Mental Health had the privilege of visiting some very special seniors in the community of Warburg. This week, we had the opportunity to go back.

Warburg is home to fewer than 700 people, and like many small rural communities, opportunities for accessible programming, social connection and mental health supports can look very different than they do in larger cities.

That’s why visits like these are so important to us.

Nearly one in four Canadian seniors report facing barriers to participating in social, recreational or group activities — and seniors experiencing these barriers are almost three times as likely to experience loneliness.

We spent the afternoon together painting pumpkins, sharing stories, laughing, and of course, getting plenty of love from Goldie and Bandit.

Because sometimes supporting mental health doesn’t look like sitting in an office. Sometimes it’s simply sitting down with someone and taking the time to talk. Sometimes it’s sharing stories and laughing around a table. Sometimes it’s having something new to look forward to that week. And sometimes, it’s a golden retriever quietly resting beside you through it all.

Those little moments of connection matter. No matter your age, and no matter your postal code.

We are so grateful to have been welcomed back to Warburg and to have the opportunity to bring Paws for Mental Health beyond Alberta’s larger centres and into communities where programs like this can be harder to access.

To everyone who spent the afternoon with us: thank you for welcoming us back. We already can’t wait to see you again. 💛
