IUOE LOCAL 955 Established in 1948, IUOE 955 is one of the largest IUOE locals in North America.

Headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, with over 10,000 active members, and district offices in Calgary, Edson and Fort McMurray, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955 is Alberta's largest trade union supporting mobile equipment operators. Our members are instrumental in building and maintaining Alberta's infrastructure within the mining, oil sands, transportation, and construction

industries. Our members also support municipalities, school districts, and other organizations that incorporate heavy equipment in their operations.

Exciting update!

We're incredibly pumped to let you know our friends at Dairy Queen will provide burgers and ice cream treats during our Show & Shine on Sept. 12 at IUOE 955's Fort McMurray union hall.

Above that, we'll have a giant candy basket draw courtesy of the good folks at Hilltop, AND the Fort McMurray Shrine Club will now be on site, clowning around and showing off their tiny cars!

It's awesome this event has garnered so much community support. We're looking forward to welcoming you and your crew soon 👊

Meet Katie!

Katie, a skilled Facility Operator, has worked at the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove since 2006.

Her primary role is the care and maintenance of two NHL-sized ice surfaces, two indoor soccer fields and guiding major trade show events, including the Surface Mine Rescue Competition.

Katie became Job Steward in 2014 and has participated in four rounds of collective bargaining. She also sits on the IUOE 955 Executive Board as auditor, a position she has held since 2021.

She thoroughly enjoys the work she does meeting the community’s recreational needs at the centre; she is also dedicated to ensuring fellow members are informed and supported in her Steward role, and enjoys serving the greater membership on the Executive Board stating, “the e-board keeps me informed and I like being part of an organization that is run by its member and always looks out for each other.”

Katie, it is a pleasure having you in the growing IUOE 955 family 👊

Solidarity and sunshine!

Earlier this week, central district supervisor, Laurie Matheson held a member appreciation BBQ for 955ers at the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove as they begin preparations for collective bargaining this fall.

Members at the centre manage daily facility operations, supervise the aquatic and fitness areas, teach swim lessons and fitness classes, run child and youth programs, assist guests at the front desk and much more.

Thanks for all you do to ensure the community's needs are met at Tri Leisure 👊
