"The second floor of 10233 97th Street, also called the “Shoctor” building, or, as it sits above the old Family Drugs Pharmacy, “the Family Drugs Building”, has been used for art studios since 2006. In 2025, after changes in building management, a re-negotiation allowed the current cohort of artists to lease the space directly. This shift provided us the opportunity to come together, share ideas, and make exciting changes. These efforts led to establishing Family Drugs Gallery, a grassroots artist-run exhibition space converted from an old studio, managed and supported by the studio artists (Family Drugs Collective). Family Drugs Gallery will open in 2026, hosting exhibits by Edmonton-based visual artists and engaging arts events."

History of the Latta Bridge
As you travel along the east end of Jasper Avenue, around 90 Street you will drive across a short bridge spanning a small ravine. This bridge is the second one built over this ravine. The first bridge was a wooden trestle construction completed in 1911, called Latta’s Bridge. This bridge was replaced by the present concrete and steel bridge in 1936 which was commonly called The Latta Ravine Bridge.

The ravine and bridge are named after David Latta, a pioneer Edmonton businessman. He was born in Ireland and came to Canada in 1889. Latta was a member of the Royal North West Mounted Police, stationed in Battleford. He was passing through Edmonton on his way to the Klondike gold rush in 1897 but decided to stay due to the demand for his blacksmithing skills. In 1906, he was elected as an alderman on Edmonton’s second city council.

In 1907, Latta built a 2 1/2 story brick house next to the bridge with a spectacular view of the Saskatchewan River Valley. The Lattas raised ten children at 9131 Jasper Ave. The house stood alone for several decades overlooking the Fraser Flats and was known as a local landmark. Casino Volunteers Needed March 10 & 11 (Grand Villa- Downtown)

Please email [email protected]

No prior experience required - there will be an advisor there to teach everything. Come out and meet your Neighbours and help us raise funds to run needed programs for the Community. This casino helps the community league and the neighbourhood greatly by providing funds that we can use to activate Boyle Street. We have been able to build a playground, host events, run programming, support other community non-profits and have exciting plans coming up where the use of these funds are crucial to creating a vibrant and safe community.

Please note that you do not need to sign up for both days if that does not work for you. We are hoping to gather as many volunteers as possible to fill all positions. Meal is provided for each shift. Transport (via Uber) can also be provided if needed.

Thanks for supporting our neighbourhood!
