Proper mental health care is often not available to kids depending on where they live. Kids like Hunter, who didn’t have access to the services she needed in her hometown.

Families across Alberta are faced with that same problem. CASA Mental Health needs your support to bring services closer to home for Alberta families.

Earlier this month, CASA Mental Health CEO Bonnie Blakley received an Alumni Changemaker Award in the Community category from Roads University, where she completed her Master of Arts in Leadership degree in 2015.

The Alumni Changemaker Achievement Awards showcase the diverse talents and accomplishments of RRU's alumni network as they advance the university’s vision to inspire people with the courage to transform the world. Recognized for transforming youth mental health care, Blakley received the honour with her family in Victoria on May 1, alongside other award recipients including Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.

“I need to give back to the public sector that helped me,” she says. “I just wanted to understand leadership better, and did I ever learn about myself,” she says, adding, “People who’ve known me say that, after Royal Roads, it’s part of the fabric of who I am.”

The ceremony profiled Blakley’s significant contributions to the ‘missing middle’ of mental health care since joining CASA in 2021. During her time with the organization, with the goal of doubling the number of children and families supported by CASA, they tripled that number to almost 12,000 annually.

“We wanted to reach more kids where they live, play and go to school, ensuring they had timely mental health services and are empowered to thrive,” she adds.

Congratulations, Bonnie! Read more about her award win here: https://www.royalroads.ca/news/bonnie-blakley-recognized-transforming-youth-mental-health-care

CASA Mental Health is a charity partner in the Home Depot Canada Foundation’s Orange Door Project campaign! And today, May 23, is Double Impact Day, meaning any donation you make towards the campaign will be matched by The Home Depot.

The campaign’s goal is to prevent youth homelessness across Canada. Until Sunday, June 14, 2026, customers can donate $3, $5 or $10 in-store at Home Depot Edmonton West or online at orangedoorproject.ca. 100 per cent of these funds stay local, directly supporting youth in our communities who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

According to Children’s Mental Healthcare Canada, there’s currently a crisis in access to mental health care prevention, assessment, diagnoses and treatment services for children and youth.

CASA Mental Health helps address that crisis. The need has never been greater. The moment is now. Consider donating to CASA so we can provide Alberta children and youth access to the help they need, any time they need it and at no cost to their families: https://casamentalhealth.org/events/give-casa?utm_campaign=spring2026&utm_source=social_organic&utm_medium=facebook
