Alberta players continuing their strong performance in competitions this year with 3 of our 4 provincial representatives making it to the semifinals of the Canadian Indoor Qualifiers. Unfortunately in the women's division only one of our two will make gold since Jan and Joanna are playing each other now in the semis.

The current game being streamed is the men's semi between Ontario and BC, but you can see the scoreboard and some of the heads from Pat Bird's game against Saskatchewan. Pat won the first set and is currently trailing behind Saskatchewan in the second set.

Bowls Alberta is proud of all of you for representing us so well at the indoors - it's a treat to play on that surface and always a tough adjustment when there's no surface like it to play on anywhere else in Canada!

The 2025 Provincial Seniors Tournament was held this week at the Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Club. 8 men's teams representing the three Edmonton outdoor clubs and the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club played five preliminary games and then all entered the playoff and consolation rounds. 5 women's teams with players from the three Edmonton clubs and 1 team from Calgary Lawn Bowling Club squared off in a full round robin followed by the playoffs and 1 consolation round. Not only were medals and the top trophy being competed for but cash prizes as well donated by the Host Committee of the 2023 Canadian Senior Triples Championship. This was an extra perk and thank you to the many seniors that volunteers for the Canadian Championship!
Big thank you to the Commonwealth club for great greens and great hospitality which included a barbecue supper together on the Wednesday evening.
The final standings for the Women's division:
Gold: Hatton Team from Calgary Lawn
Silver: Spencer Team from Highlands
Bronze: Ross-Watson Team from Commonwealth & Royal
Consolation: Ranger Team from Commonwealth
Final standings for the Men's division:

Notable achievement from the Hatton and Olsvik teams...all players from Calgary Lawn Bowling Club, the teams repeated winning overall for a second year in a row! Congratulations to the players for this accomplishment. Rumor is that they will be defending their titles again in 2026.

The AB Northern Novice Pairs tournament was held this weekend at the beautiful Royal Lawn Bowling Club. Seven pairs teams squared away learning lots about the energy level needed to play more than two games in a day, learning and accepting advice from the umpire including rules around possession of the rink, learning about tie-break rules and tournament Conditions of Play, and as always, getting to know and appreciate novice members of other clubs! A huge thank you to Royal for doing a great job hosting the tournament.

Results:
Gold: Terry Epp and Mohammad Kiani
Silver: Paul Thompson and Blair Whitman
Bronze: Ken Mutlow and Janet Mutlow

Congratulations to all the players for a fantastic two days of great competition and camaraderie!

Also a huge, huge, HUGE thanks to Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Club and all volunteers from across Edmonton, Alberta, and other provinces that helped for this event to be run as smoothly as it could.
