Infill works best when it’s collaborative, whether it’s through strong partnerships with the City or industry relationships. Good infill starts with building trust and having shared expectations, but it ends with maintaining strong partnerships and goals for future projects.

Infill has been top of mind for many Edmontonians, including our members, who contribute to a variety of housing products across the city. Our Infill Committee represents a range of Edmonton voices across the infill development industry, providing insight into projects, sharing new perspectives, and advocating for a stronger understanding of how infill contributes to neighbourhood vitality.

When it comes to infill in Edmonton, there is still room to grow. From 2018 to 2025, the City of Edmonton recorded over 93,000 net new dwellings constructed across the city, with roughly 24,000 of them in core and mature neighbourhoods.

We wrapped up our regional tour of meetings with mayors and municipal administrations with a productive stop at Strathcona County.

Our CEO, Kalen Anderson, was joined by Rohit’s Chris Dulaba and our Manager of Metro Strategy, Josh Culling, to meet with Rod Frank, CAO Stacy Fedechko, and Deputy CAO Kevin Cole. Together, the group discussed how stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors can help welcome growth, attract investment, and support families and newcomers choosing to call the region home.

The conversation was insightful and forward-looking, highlighting how strategic infrastructure investments can help unlock economic activity, community building, and new housing development. There was also meaningful discussion around the policies, approvals, and processes that need to evolve to ensure municipalities remain competitive from both a business and investment attraction perspective.

We greatly appreciated the opportunity to exchange ideas on the future of the built environment, development, and construction — and the innovative thinking that will be required as communities across the region continue to grow, municipality by municipality, and together as a region.
