We are both honoured and thrilled to have Jesse Thistle as one of our keynote speakers. Jesse Thistle is Métis-Cree, from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and an assistant professor in Humanities at York University in Toronto. His research focuses on the intergenerational and historical trauma of the Métis people. Additionally, he draws on his personal experiences with addiction and homelessness to inform his work. His research has had a profound impact on both the academic community and the wider public.

Jesse Thistle is Métis-Cree, from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and an assistant professor in Humanities at York University in Toronto. FROM THE ASHES was the top-selling Canadian book in 2020, the winner of the Kobo Emerging Writer Prize for Nonfiction, Indigenous Voices Award, and High Plains Book Award, and also a finalist for CBC Canada Reads. Jesse won a Governor General’s Academic Medal in 2016, and is a Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Scholar and a Vanier Scholar. A frequent keynote speaker, he lives in Hamilton, Ontario, with his wife, Lucie, and the most wonderful little human he’s ever known, his daughter Rose. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Ashley Rhodes will no longer be speaking at the A4YC 2025 Conference. We are excited to share that Jesse Thistle will be joining us as our newest Keynote Speaker.
