Sustainable Health Care with Acupuncture

Debra Marcus and Andrea House envisioned an acupuncture clinic for people in need. Community Acupuncture Works has a sliding scale payment option for patients who need care, NO amount is too small.

When Debra was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2011, she took control of her health and met Andrea House at Acupuncture Works! in Edmonton. The women became fast friends with Andrea’s focused care and Debra’s interest in traditional medicine. Debra’s social work background was always in the forefront of her mind and she became concerned for people who could not afford acupuncture. With Andrea’s wealth of experience, the two discussed a sustainable care clinic for people in need. Andrea has made this vision a reality, two short years after Debra’s passing, with her Community Acupuncture Works. Andrea has used the POCA model to provide affordable care.

Andrea House is a registered Acupuncturist in the province of Alberta (2003) . She is in good standing with the College of Acupuncturists of Alberta, a member of the academic committee for acupuncture education at MacEwan University. For 3 years she was an instructor of acupressure in the Holistic Health program at MacEwan university, she wrote the courseware for the acupressure program. Andrea has completed additional professional development at Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine University (Nanning, China), the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (San Francisco, USA) and Harvard University (Cambridge, USA). Travelling to Managua, Nicaragua in association with Change For Children in 2007 was a life changing experience and helped deepen her understanding of the care of children with acupuncture. Passionate about the care of children, Andrea also started People Powered Medicine, an informal group of healthcare professionals dedicated to volunteering their time to deliver free seminars to parents about children's health and development. In her spare time, Andrea likes to sing, scrapbook, and enjoy family life.

Debra Marcus (1951-2016) was a social worker in the city of Edmonton for 35 years. She served women’s health services and the elderly. She travel to exciting places (before it was cool) like, Tibet, Vietnam, the Himalayas, the Amazon, India and the Gulf Island of British Columbia.
