This could be life saving. Whether it is a medical emergency, fire, or a break in, we should all be aware of what is going on in the community and how to support each other.

In an emergency, you and your neighbours may be the first to respond. Learn how to support each other at a “Get Ready in the Neighbourhood” workshop.

Workshops are free, interactive and open to all residents.

‼️🚨Spruce Avenue School has made the National Trust of Canada’s list of the Top 10 Most Endangered Heritage Places in Canada. 🚨‼️

The Spruce Avenue Community League board as well as concerned residents have been fighting tirelessly to preserve Spruce Avenue School, a two-storey brick landmark built in 1928. It has long stood as both an architectural treasure and a community cornerstone in Edmonton’s north-central neighbourhood. This historic building has stood for nearly a century and has educated generations of residents while serving as a gathering place for the community.

In 2024, Edmonton Public Schools announced plans to demolish the historic school and replace it with a new K–9 facility under Alberta Infrastructure’s School Infrastructure Accelerator program. The decision, made without direct community consultation, has sparked disappointment and concern among residents, heritage supporters, and alumni, who fear the loss of a key piece of neighbourhood identity. Many are calling for greater transparency and consideration of preservation or adaptive reuse before this piece of local history is gone.
