"The Lord prepares a feast of divine nourishment for His people and cloaks us with His righteousness. As recipients of His wealth of grace and mercy, we ought to rejoice with unrelenting gladness. Yet there are times when even the chosen, the elect, the invited discount the very invitation and refuse to heed His Word of indisputable truth. Rejection of Jesus brings condemnation and wrath. But nourishment in His Word and Sacrament begets life and forgiveness."

"God mightily delivered Israel to the Promised Land, but the Israelites were also indicted for their profound rebellion. Resolute confidence as God’s elect is laid to waste in the wake of overwhelming sin. Paul’s confidence was not in his genealogy but rather grounded in his resolute faith in Christ, through whom we receive every bit of righteousness and grace. Jesus is God’s own Son, sent amid conspirators and murderers to face death that we may inherit life."

"The way of Christ stands firm against all transgressions. God’s chosen, sinful people frequently gripe, complain, and hurl insults against God, daring to challenge His authority. But God heartily desires that His people would be transformed with a new heart and a new spirit. His way is one of comfort, love, affection, sympathy, and joy. God’s people receive all of this incredible goodness when they turn from transgressions, confess guilt, acknowledge His authority, and receive His grace."

"Christ’s compassion and pardon embrace, console, and encourage believers. Sinners will abandon wickedness, confess transgressions, and receive the Lord’s forgiveness. Prisoners of the faith will remain steadfast in conflict, endure hardship, and yet be confident in the Gospel of Christ. God’s kingdom is revealed to us by a continuum of generous, undeserved grace for all those who seek Christ, call upon His name, and believe in Him."

"In adversity and blessing, we belong to the Lord. Joseph became an emissary of God’s mercy despite his brothers’ evil intent. As we navigate and process quarrels, judgments, and opinions, human adversity distorts our life with Christ. We belong to Him as we strive to live. We belong to Him as we prepare to die. Christ resolves adversity from His heart, resolving disputes with wisdom, love, and forgiveness. This, too, is our blessing to receive and to share."

"God’s laws are just. His prophets and pastors exercise authority in condemning sin, wickedness, and evil. Iniquities cannot be ignored; all are subject to God’s authority. We are also subject to earthly governments and authorities who strive to restrain unruly behavior. As citizens in both kingdoms, our conduct should reflect humility, love, duty, and honesty. As members of the church, it is just that we are called to care for and regain unrepentant sinners."
