Dr. Robin Lucciantonio is a registered dietitian and diabetes educator who meets people where they are: with deep compassion, practical support, and trusted clinical knowledge 🩵

Her patients describe her as someone who listens without judgment, celebrates their wins, and helps them overcome even the toughest challenges.

But her work goes far beyond one-on-one care. While working full time, she is also earning her master’s degree and contributing to diabetes research, always staying at the forefront of new tools and approaches. She bridges the gap between research and everyday life, bringing new ideas directly into patient care.

Through countless initiatives and everyday acts of care, she has improved access to care and outcomes for so many individuals. She creates a safe, respectful environment where people feel seen and supported.

Her commitment to evidence-based practice, combined with her personal connection to those she serves, means that her work has both deep and meaningful impact. People are not only healthier because of her…they’re also more confident and empowered to live full lives with diabetes.

Join us November 13th (in commemoration of World Diabetes Day) 🔬🔵 as we celebrate the extraordinary individuals, researchers, and community champions shifting the landscape of diabetes care.

Did you know that around 3.9 million Canadians are living with diagnosed diabetes? Even more concerning, eight in ten people who have prediabetes don't even know they have it 🔵

Prediabetes often develops quietly without showing obvious symptoms. However, paying close attention to subtle changes in your body can help you catch it early. Catching it early gives you the power to reverse it or delay Type 2 diabetes entirely through manageable lifestyle changes.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🟠 , the Alberta Diabetes Foundation honours the ongoing journey toward healing, equity, and health justice by highlighting the vital work of the LINK (Linking First Nations Diabetes Care) project.

In partnership with community supporters and the Okaki Virtual Diabetes Care Clinic (OVDCC), LINK empowers Indigenous individuals and families living with diabetes by providing culturally safe, virtual medical care, education, and resources.

The Okaki clinic delivers a comprehensive medical model focused on three core pillars:

✅ Robust Care Coordination: Ensuring continuous support so no patient falls through the cracks between appointments.

✅ Expert Consultation: Granting patients direct access to diabetes specialists at the University of Alberta without having to leave their home communities.

✅ Culturally Safe Care: Building deep trust, respect, and long-term health outcomes through culturally grounded, person-centered practices.

Through LINK, 26+ First Nations communities across Alberta are receiving essential diabetes care, delivering critical medical attention to over 800 individuals who previously struggled with consistent healthcare access.

True reconciliation includes equal access to life-saving care 🩺
Consider making a donation today to help us continue funding LINK and other transformative research and community care projects shaping Alberta’s future.

A couple of weeks ago, we hit the green for an unforgettable day at the 21st Annual Jules & Sharon Golf Tournament! We are beyond thrilled to share that this year’s event raised an incredible $51,230 🔬🔵

Hosted by two true champions of the diabetes community, Jules Germain and Sharon Stefanyk, this tournament continues to be a cornerstone event for the Alberta Diabetes Foundation.

Every single dollar raised goes directly toward funding groundbreaking local research projects, student scholarships, and vital care initiatives that support our province’s most vulnerable populations.

Sharon and Jules’ journey began at least 21 years ago when their daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Driven by love, they transformed a personal diagnosis into two decades of community action.

Their unwavering dedication earned them the Outstanding Philanthropist Award 2025 at our Hummingbird Awards Gala; recognizing how they’ve not only raised vital funds, but also welcomed new families into the community, built lasting partnerships, and inspired countless others to get involved.

To every golfer, sponsor, donor, and volunteer who came out to make this 21st anniversary a huge success: Thank you! Your generosity keeps alive the fight against diabetes.
