Our April presenter, Patricia Scott, can be described as a frenetic quilter. Her UFO list is impressive, as is what she has accomplished in her 35+ years of quilting. Generational influences from her grandmother and mother have shaped her passion for fabric. Patricia’s love of colour is also evident in many of her finished
quilts.
Patricia has participated in many challenges, particularly while she was living in the USA. Her quilts have been published in several books and have travelled across Canada as well as to Taiwan. She has also led several block exchanges, the most recent of which included 12 Canadian and 12 American quilters!
Patricia’s presentation will include a discussion of the challenges of organizing and executing block exchanges, setting the group up for success and some of the amazing results when participants put their blocks together.

Our March Meeting's Speaker!
Join us for an inspiring presentation by Cindi Plant, a full time mixed-media artist from Vermilion, AB. Through her PowerPoint presentation, Cindi will showcase a variety of methods, materials and memories used in several of her art pieces. Those attending in person will be able to give her art quilts a closer, more personal perusal.

Cindi grew up in Saskatchewan, studied Interior Design in Manitoba and worked in the private sector before beginning a long career in design education through Alberta’s college system. While formal education has provided design background, creating art is another thing altogether. Her goal: to create art that inspires and uplifts the spirit!

Guests are welcome. (admission fee 10.00) Please contact [email protected] to find out how you can attend the meeting either in-person at the ATA or via Zoom.

Pearl Sceviour, an EDQG member, started quilting in Calgary in 1995 but it became a more serious pastime once she retired. Through joining a local guild in 2009, she was introduced to many quilting techniques, but found her passion in the peacefulness of hand applique and the creativity of bringing photos into quilts. Pearl enjoys participating in quilting workshops, believing that there may be a new, exciting journey just around the corner!

Pearl has discovered that each quilt you make can teach you something. As a believer in continual learning, Pearl will explore with us the myriad of learnings about techniques, herself, and even “I’m never doing that again”!

Guests are welcome to attend. Contact [email protected] for more information on how you can attend.

Our January Speaker!
What are some creative ways that we all can think about, and act on, the huge problem that is textile waste? Hermina Joldersma is both a retired teacher and a life-long sewer-turned-fibre-artist-turned-mender. In her talk she will briefly describe the problem, what is being done, and her own fibre journey viewed from that perspective. Most of her talk focuses on how individuals who wear clothes – all of us – can think and act more responsibly and creatively while still enjoying the clothes we own now and might purchase in the future. She will bring some examples of her work in the hope that others will be inspired!

Guests are Welcome. (Guest fee is 10.00)
Meeting is at 7pm on January 21 via Zoom or in-person at the AB Teacher's Association building.
Please contact [email protected] for more information on how you can attend the meeting!
