The UA 41st General Convention has officially concluded!

Local 488 was proudly represented by our membership, elected officers, and Business Manager Rod McKay. More than 4,000 delegates gathered, debated important issues with respect, and departed in unity.

The convention reinforced the connection among all union members, regardless of country, ethnicity, religion, or creed. Time and again, we saw the strong bonds between various unions and the respect shown for the UA as an organization on the international stage.

Proud to be UA! The fight for 500,000 members has begun.

Thursdays session of the 41st General Convention included guest speakers Liz Schuler, President of the AFL-CIO and Earl Setches, President of Australia's PPETU.

These guest speakers came between various resolutions involving the safety of our members and their right to harassment free environments, jurisdictional updates and other constitutional amendments.

The Laws Comittee's mandate for this convention was concluded with a final report presented by Business Manager Rod McKay.

Wednesday at the UA 41st General Convention opened to strong debate on constitutional amendments of various topics involving elections and fiscal responsibility.

Following those resolutions a presentation was given by Paddy Kavanagh, General Secretary for Ireland's Connect Union on their relationship with North American trade unions and the similar difficulties they encounter.

The afternoon was focused on mental health and the supports offered through the UA and various Locals. A special presentation was also given on mental health by guest speaker Sean Astin, Actor and President of SAG-AFTRA.

Tuesday’s session of the UA’s 41st General Convention featured a memorial for members who have passed since the last Convention, a celebration honoring retired members, various adjustments and clarifications to the UA Constitution, and a reaffirmation of the bond of Brotherhood and Sisterhood between Canadian and American members of the UA.

Today marks the kickoff of the 41st UA General Convention in San Diego!
