Fun Speakers Toastmasters Club

Fun Speakers Toastmasters Club Join us for our semi-monthly Monday meetings at 7:15 p.m. at the Windsor Park Community League Hall! Toastmasters members learn to tell their story.

Through its worldwide network of clubs, each week Toastmasters helps more than a quarter of a million men and women of every ethnicity, education level and profession build their competence in communication so they can gain the confidence to lead others. Toastmasters continues to build on its legacy by providing a strong foundation for the future. Its proven educational program continually evolves

to address the needs of the world’s communicators and leaders both today and tomorrow. They listen and answer. They plan and lead. They give feedback – and accept it. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership. They do this by practice and learning skills by filling meeting roles, ranging from giving a prepared or an impromptu speech to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in positive manner, focusing on what was done correctly and what could be improved. Great communicators tend to be great leaders. To find more info about our club, or to find info about any other Toastmasters Club, please visit: www.toastmasters.org/findaclub.

One of the things that makes Fun Speakers special is the quality of our feedback. At our April 13th meeting, our evaluators brought their A-game.

Jessica evaluated Bren's speech with warmth and precision, highlighting that vulnerability is a speaker's greatest strength β€” and pushing Bren to punctuate his most powerful moments even more.

Hien, Marie-Laure, and Judy rounded out the evaluation team with specific, actionable, and encouraging feedback for each speaker.

Our General Evaluator Victoria wrapped it all up with sharp observations on every role of the evening from Sergeant at Arms Anna (who set a welcoming tone right from the start) to Toastmaster Hien, who was praised for his natural transitions and strong stage presence.

πŸ† Congratulations to Jess for winning Best Evaluator!

During our last meeting, four prepared speeches took the stage and they did not disappoint!

- Bren opened with a deeply personal and poetic exploration of grief β€” challenging three common narratives about what grief really is, and reminding us that grief is, above all, proof that we have loved.

- Eunjin shared Precious, Unexpected Gifts β€” a beautiful collection of stories from her 18 years working in the non-profit sector, centered on a remarkable woman she calls "Everyone's Mom."

- Sharon delivered Why Join the Executive? A warm, informative breakdown of the 8 executive roles in a Toastmasters club, perfectly timed ahead of elections.

- Judy presented the first part of a Moment of Truth analysis, a SWOT-style review of our club that sparked great conversation about how we welcome guests and support our members.

πŸ† Best Speaker of the evening: Bren. Congratulations!

At the Table Topics portion of our April 13th meeting, our Table Topics Master Brian L., DTM challenged members and guests with three thought-provoking questions inspired by our theme of "The Power of Story":
Is there a story you find particularly powerful and meaningful? Is there a story you would recommend people not read, and why? And do you have a favorite author?

The answers were moving, funny, and deeply personal, from overcoming failure in college to discovering a favorite author while sleep-deprived from reading too late.

It's always amazing to see what people can do with just 2 minutes and a question they've never seen before.

πŸ† Congratulations to Allyson for winning Best Table Topics Speaker!

✨ The Power of Story!

Our April 13th meeting at Fun Speakers Toastmasters was a night to remember. Under the theme "The Power of Story," we were reminded why stories are at the heart of everything that makes us human β€” how they pass on knowledge, build bridges between strangers and turn moments into lasting memories.

A big thank you to everyone who showed up fully and shared their voice. To our three guests who joined us for the first time. We're so glad you were part of the evening! πŸ™Œ

And a warm welcome to our three newest members: Bren, Hien, and VΓ©ronique, who were officially inducted into the Fun Speakers family during the business meeting. We're thrilled to have you!

Full House, Full Hearts! πŸ πŸ’¬

We are still buzzing from the energy at our last meeting! A massive thank you to the 9 incredible guests who filled the room with new perspectives and enthusiasm.

You didn't just watch, you stepped up! At Fun Speakers, we believe the best way to learn is by doing. We were thrilled to see so many of you jump into our Table Topics session on "Unwritten Rules." You shared insightful (and hilarious) takes on everything from:

- The etiquette of removing shoes indoors πŸ‘Ÿ
- The non-negotiable nature of punctuality ⏰
- Courtesy on the road πŸš—
- And the unspoken rules of the classroom! 🍎

πŸ† Special Shout-out: A huge round of applause to the guest who, on only their second visit, took home the Best Table Topics Award! Proving that you don't need to be a long-time member to make a big impact.

Ready for Round 2? Whether you are looking to nail a work presentation or just get comfortable speaking off-the-cuff, you’ve already taken the hardest step: showing up. We can't wait to see you continue your journey.

Unwritten Rules & Unforgettable Speeches! πŸ“œβœ¨

Our January 26th meeting at Fun Speakers Toastmasters was full of insights as we navigated the theme of "Unwritten Rules". From social etiquette to classroom norms, we learned that common sense isn't always so common!

Meeting Highlights:

🎀 Peter Grimm reminded us that Physical Education is essential educationβ€”teaching resilience, mental health, and focus, not just dodgeball!
🎀 Eunjin Kim took us on a linguistic journey, comparing Korean and English accents and how our mother tongue shapes the way we connect.

πŸ† Congratulations to our winners: Bobby for Best Table Topics and Marie-Laure for Best Evaluator!

A big thank you to everyone who shared their "unwritten rules" on everything from tipping culture to wearing shoes indoors.
