This month, we gave a drumming presentation to a local school. Our school shows contain taiko songs, educational segments, and a mini workshop. This team did two shows back-to-back at this school!

Tedra and Ken came to visit us from Japan. They are also taiko players, it was so cool to see each other's styles. They were also so generous to gift us a tiny baby odaiko for our big odaiko!

This is what a new hide sounds like! They start out sounding crisp and high pitch. Over time, they will soften to the ideal low tone. Look how beautiful the new hide looks!

Over the weekend, we had a drum maintenance day to replace broken hides. Over time with lots of drumming, the hides will wear out and holes will form. We are lucky enough to learn from our senior group members on how to replace them with fresh hides, which need to be stretched and dried under tension. It's always a fun and educational day for us to spend with our drums!

Apprentice Phoenix has shredded her first bachi learning Dokokara, a popular song that has killed many a bachi due to the amount of ka (edge hits).
Keep on drumming Phoenix!
