Green Scholars of Alberta

This organization was created with the primary goal of raising environmental awareness and encouraging responsible citizenship within our society.

Green Scholars of Alberta was founded in 2011 in memory of Rajinder Bhullar - a wife, mother, and grandmother - who lost her battle to a cancer which was likely caused as a result of improper use of field pesticides and poor environmental conditions in her native country of India. We feel that if each person makes a small effort to be more environmentally conscious, it can add up and make a large

difference. For us, it all started with one small tree planting ceremony, and has continued to grow through several grassroots initiatives. Since starting, we have broadened our scope of activities to include women and children empowerment initiatives, as we continue to search for ways to inspire change

ਕੱਲ੍ਹ, ਸ਼ਾਮ 4:30 ਵਜੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਗੁਆਂਢਣ ਬੀਬੀ (ਇੱਕ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਔਰਤ - ਲਗਭਗ 65 ਸਾਲ) ਕੂੜਾ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਇਸਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਵੱਲ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ। ਅਚਾਨਕ ਇੱਕ ਨੀਲੀ ਕਾਰ ਆ ਗਈ, ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਮੁੰਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਔਰਤ ਬਾਹਰ ਆਏ। ਮੁੰਡਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ 35 ਸਾਲ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਔਰਤ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ 60 ਜਾਂ 70 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ। ਮੁੰਡਾ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੀ ਉਹ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਮੁਸਲਿਮ। ਬੀਬੀ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੈ। ਉਸਨੂੰ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁਭਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਉਹ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ। ਬੀਬੀ ਇੱਥੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ , ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਨੇ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ-ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਸਮਝਾ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ, ਔਰਤ ਬੀਬੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ 'ਤੇ ਦੋ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੂੜੀਆਂ ਉਤਾਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ। ਬੀਬੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ 'ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਛੋਟਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੱਟ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਔਰਤ ਚੂੜੀਆਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਖਿੱਚ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਬੀਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਕੱਟ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਔਰਤ ਨੇ ਚੂੜੀਆਂ ਲਗਭਗ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਬੀਬੀ ਨੇ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਚੀਕਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ "ਕੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੋ!" ਬੀਬੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਕਿਸਮਤ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਇੱਕ ਕਾਰ ਪਾਰਕਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਦੋ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲੇ। ਮੁੰਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਔਰਤ ਡਰਕੇ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਆਸ਼ੀਰਵਾਦ ਲੈ ਰਹੇ ਸੀ। ਬੀਬੀ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਡਰਾਉਣੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ।

ਅਸੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਵੁੱਡਸ (ਪੋਲਾਰਡ ਮੀਡੋਜ਼ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ) ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਹੋਰ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਅਜਨਬੀ ਖ਼ਤਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਹੋ ਸਕਣ।
