About Us

The initiative of the MacEwan Live Music Club (LMC) is to organize multiple music based events around campus, to develop diversity in the local arts scene, and create opportunities for students to practice performing their art in a safe and professional environment. We aim to contribute to the arts exhibited and performed in Allard Hall, the MacEwan campuses, and consequently, the Edmonton arts scene; To connect with students from other programs within the University, and to provide student performers with opportunities to showcase their music, and be compensated for their performance(s). We emphasize the value in artists not only displaying their art, but also the preparation, talent, and work required to perform in a live environment.

- Inspiration -

The MacEwan Live Music Club is grounded in the appreciation of live music, and the impact it can have on individual lives. We also strongly believe that musicians and other artists are embarking on a serious career, and deserve to be treated maturely and with respect. We are strong advocates for giving student artists as many opportunities to practice showcasing their work, and to be appropriately compensated for their efforts. Our students are often presented with many opportunities that offer “exposure”, but don’t offer fair compensation. Not only do we want to make sure that our students receive the opportunities to get paid for their work, but also to be treated with respect at all times, and for their work to be recognized as worthy of consideration.

The objective of our initiative with this student group is to provide MacEwan arts students with opportunities to showcase their work in professional settings, and be compensated financially for their endeavours. We think that as part of the Bachelor of Music Degree at MacEwan, students should have more opportunities to have real-life experiences performing, and working with and as professionals. Through our initiative with the club, we aim not only to provide students with as many performing opportunities as possible, but to be able to give back to our students and community by paying artists directly for their work.
