🌼 Summer Market Artist Reveal!

Join us for the second annual L53 Summer Market, and get a look at beautiful hand dyed indigo, incense and herbal teas by IOTA Studio. Their work will be available on the Saturday, June 20th of our market, and can also be seen in our merch partnership with a local artist (to be announced soon).

“As IOTA Studio, I craft handmade incense, herbal teas and indigo-dyed textiles, often incorporating locally-grown organic plants and flowers. The collections are thoughtfully designed and carefully created to enhance small, everyday moments. The name IOTA evokes the momentary experience of incense and acknowledges what inspires us.”

🌺 Summer Market Artist Reveal!

Visit the Gallery June 19th and 20th to delve into Krystal Selbee’s ceramic world, filled with vibrancy, simplicity, and chaos.

Ritual Ceramics is a line of wheel thrown stoneware for everyday use. I draw inspiration from the vibrant chaos in early modernist abstract and impressionist paintings. My pots are minimalist in form and expressive in surface. There are unifying elements across pots but no two pieces are identical. I want each object to be chosen for its particular colour, line, and weight.

🌸 Summer Market artist reveal!

Catch Kale on Friday, June 19th to peruse some beautifully wiggly linocut prints, patches, and more!

"My name is Kale/Kaili and I am a q***r machine tattooer of 6.5 years residing in amiskwaciwaskahikan in Treaty 6 territory. I have been making art and drawing for as long as I can remember, now working in linocut print, digital and ink/pen drawing, and other craft based arts. Creation has always been what keeps me grounded; fostering a better understanding of myself and the world around me. I specialize in blackwork and abstract tattoo designs, although I love experimenting with medium and form as well. I see art as a lens or tool for the preservation of thought and emotion, and am always taking inspiration from the world around me. I especially enjoy replicating patterns/elements that are found in nature, and am heavily inspired by the similarities found in micro and macro images. It brings me an almost indescribable sense of comfort, belonging, and togetherness when I see these similarities and patterns replicated across the universe."

🌻 Summer Market Artist Reveal!

Come out on June 20th to see the intricately crafted metalwork jewellery and wearable fashions of Northern Plains by Erik Lee.

Traditional and modern, Erik’s work has been showcased at such venues as the Smithsonian in Manhattan, NYC and the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC, as well as Santa Fe Indian Market where he was awarded 1st place in the Jewelry/Belts category in 2022. Erik has also participated in Toronto, New York and Vancouver Indigenous fashion weeks, and won first place in contemporary jewellery category Eiteljorg Museum Indianapolis Indiana 2024. Erik’s work is rooted in Nehiyaw traditional forms and reflects the geometric and floral designs in Nehiyaw art. He brings this aesthetic to his contemporary, fine art jewellery style and high end wearable fashions in sterling silver.

"My work is informed by the Cree visual language and design sensibilities. Plains art and adornment are very individual forms of expression. Every piece is a statement piece, the statement being, here I am! While paying tribute to historical form, I strive to innovate and bring new directions to Indigenous design. It is a living art form, just as Indigenous cultures are living and evolving entities."

🌷Summer Market Artist alert!

Come by for the Latitude 53 market on June 19th and 20th to see gorgeously designed notebooks and stickers from fanclub.cơm, the collaborative project by Janelle & Serena

喂, come have dinner with Fanclub.cơm! (*the character is the cantonese word for “hey!” pronounced wai)

We're a joint project between Janelle and Serena, using our years of visual art and design skills on a project that is personal and reminds us of why we love making things.

We're creating paper goods, stickers and artwork about the city, plants, and our cultural connections.

The name fanclub.cơm is a play on words that incorporates our Cantonese and Vietnamese connections. We are each other’s fans, cheering on wins and successes to support one another in this industry. ‘Fan’ and ‘cơm’ also sound similar to the Cantonese and Vietnamese words for ‘rice’ respectively. The name is now a fun and quirky arrangement of who we are and what our friendship is like!
