What’s In a Name?

Cavernous Angioma - Cavernoma - Cavernous Malformation - Cavernous Hemangioma or acronyms like: CCM (Cerebral Cavernous Malformations) and CA (Cavernous Angioma)

These terms are used interchangeably to refer to mulberry-shaped abnormal blood vessels in the brain or spine. Angioma Alliance Canada is an organization for and by individuals who have these abnormal blood vessels and those who care about them. There is a great deal of information to learn about living with cavernous angiomas. Here you will find information about symptoms and treatment, surgery, rehabilitation, genetics, diagnostic testing, pregnancy, and pediatric cavernous angiomas. We have changed our registration process for our monthly group support sessions! Register once and receive email reminders to attend every month. Alternatively, you can still register each time as well, the registration link stays the same.

Group support welcomes CM patients and families 18 years of age and older for a shared time of discussion and connecting, learning from each other and listening to a journey that resembles yours. Attendees tell us that they feel a little less alone, enjoy talking to people that understand and feel supported in their journey.

Dr. Steinberg is the Bernard and Ronni Lacroute-William Randolph Hearst Professor of Neurosurgery and the Neurosciences
Founder and Co-Director, Stanford Stroke Center and Former Chair (1995-2020), Department of Neurosurgery Stanford University.

Through our commitment of broadening knowledge and education for our patients and families, Dr. Steinberg will join the Patient and Family Conference taking place at the same time to shed light on the most pressing questions from this group. Our Mission takes us from coast to coast across Canada and this Proclamation from Prince Edward Island recognizing the unequal access to diagnosis and care for cavernous malformation patients amplifies the need for our continued work to raise awareness, education and support for patients and caregivers affected by this rare disease.

Thank you to the Province of PEI for this proclamation and recognition of the challenges our community faces.

The Province of British Columbia has declared June as Cavernous Malformation Awareness Month!

Recognition of this rare disease and the barriers to diagnosis and care along with social, financial and health impacts to patients and their caregivers has a meaningful impact.

The need to raise awareness and increase support the need for treatment options and change towards an improved quality of life for those affected cannot be stated more fully.

We are on a mission..

We're on a mission and failure is not an option. Patients and families with this rare disease depend on it.

Every action impacts- the discussions with scientists, clinicians, government, the public, funding, asking the hard questions, connecting, collecting and so many actions-big and small- all bring us closer to a cure and impacting the quality of life of patients with cavernous malformation and their caregivers.
