Be Inspired and Strong - Brain Injury and Stroke Toastmasters
We are a progressive Toastmasters Club, run exclusively by BI survivors for people with BI, CP and MS. Every one of our members is a survivor of a brain related disability
We don’t care where you are in your journey of recovery. We have all been there before and we completely understand what you are going through. We are totally grass roots, with members from 1 to 30 years post injury. We are all ages with an interesting variety of backgrounds and abilities. We receive incredible support from Toastmasters International, with mentoring from two of Edmonton’s finest Toastmasters, Peter Kossowan DTM and Willard Robitaille DTM. We will be officially chartered when we reach a few more fully paid up members. What are some of the benefits that have been realized by individuals in our club?
- meaningful dialogue and communication with other brain injury/stroke survivors
- modelling of other survivors’ effective rehabilitative strategies
- developing personal responsibility by engaging in interdependent activities and projects
- learning to pace one’s self in a challenging situation
- developing the ability to independently plan and follow through with commitments
receiving self esteem by being appreciated for your contribution
Why do we do it? We meet every first and third Thursday of each month. meeting starts at 1:00
contact Darryl at 780 236 5444
The cost is one time $30.00 for materials (members on AISH are eligible for a $25.00 grant from Excalibur’s Edge to help cover this ) and $10.00 person meeting via zoom for now. We may never regain all the skills we had prior to our disabilities, but we are becoming experts at figuring out new and innovative ways of accomplishing things. For many of us, BIS Toastmasters has become an integral part of our rehabilitation! WON’T YOU JOIN US ?
