Today, we honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of Residential Schools, their families and communities, and all those who continue to be affected by the Residential School system and the ongoing impacts of colonization.
The SACE office is closed today, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
At SACE, we recognize that sexual violence and colonial violence are deeply connected. The impacts of Residential Schools, displacement, systemic racism, and other forms of colonial violence continue to affect Indigenous communities across this country.
Reconciliation requires more than remembering. It calls on all of us to listen, learn, reflect, and take meaningful action. For SACE, this means centering Indigenous voices, acknowledging the ongoing impacts of colonialism, supporting culturally grounded healing, and working toward justice and systemic change.
Today, we wear orange to remember, reflect, and reaffirm our commitment to Truth, Reconciliation, and Decolonization.
We encourage our community to take time today to learn about the history and ongoing impacts of Residential Schools and colonization, listen to Indigenous voices, and support Indigenous-led initiatives.
