When a young person at YOUCAN lands a job, they ring the bell, and today the bell got a workout. Huge congratulations to another one of our youth on getting hired! The resumes, the practice interviews and the nerve to hit "apply" all paid off.

We're so proud of you. Go get 'em. 💪

Two days. One shared goal: building a workforce that works for Alberta.

Last month, our team joined employers, service providers, government and community partners at the 2026 WorkFirst Alberta Summit in Edmonton. On the main stage, in the breakout sessions and at our booth in Hall H, one message kept coming up: young people are ready to work. They just need the right support to get there.

That is what our Road to Work and Verto programs are built for. Youth build job readiness skills, work on their resumes, cover letters and interview prep, and get 12-weeks of follow-up support from an Employment Coach as they take their next step.

A highlight for us was welcoming Mr. Nathan Neudorf, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services, and other summit guests to the new YOUCAN building. We showed them where that work happens, including the bell our youth ring every time they get a job. Thank you, Minister Nathan Neudorf, for taking the time to see it firsthand.

Thank you also to everyone who stopped by to chat with Maret and Ryan at the YOUCAN booth, and to the WorkFirst Alberta Summit team for bringing this community together.

Yesterday we spent part of the afternoon with the amazing brothers at Sangea Academy , where we took part in a drumming workshop and learned a little about their culture, heritage, and family story.

Massive shoutout to them for creating such a high-energy environment. The time flew by!

Last week, IUOE 955 Business Agent, Ryan Ermet hand-delivered a cheque for close to $1,300 - monies raised by the membership during our summer Family Fun Day in Edmonton - to the real ones at YOUCAN Youth Services 👊

YOUCAN Youth Services is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to helping young people out of harm's way and onto a path of economic independence.

IUOE 955 is proud to give back to the communities we live and work in.

One year ago today, we opened the doors to the YOUCAN Youth Empowerment Centre.

It was a milestone years in the making, made possible by a community that believed Edmonton's young people deserved a space built around opportunity, connection and possibility.

But opening the doors was only the beginning.

Over the past year, these walls have held job interviews and training sessions. Difficult conversations and new beginnings. Partnerships formed. Skills learned. Goals set. And plenty of moments worth celebrating.

Every person who helped bring this Centre to life invested in much more than a building. You helped create a place where young people can take meaningful steps toward what comes next.

To our donors, partners, employers, supporters, staff and community: thank you for opening these doors with us and continuing to walk through them.
Help us build the next chapter by supporting young people in ways that go beyond giving. Become an employment partner and help create meaningful opportunities for youth to build skills, gain experience and take their next step.

Almost one year ago, we were getting ready to open the doors to the YOUCAN Youth Empowerment Centre.

But opening a building was never the end goal. The vision was to create a place where young people could walk through the doors and find opportunity, connection and support under one roof.

Tomorrow, we celebrate one year since the grand opening and reflect on everything that has happened within these walls since.

And there is a lot to celebrate, as we continue building brighter futures for youth.
