Here is a tough truth for early-stage entrepreneurs: if your business cannot afford to pay you, it isn't a sustainable business model yet.

Underpricing and bootstrapping at the expense of personal well-being is one of the most common financial traps women founders fall into . We treat ourselves as an afterthought, hoping the profit will show up later.

Alicia Fowler’s advice is simple, numerical, and urgent:
"Building yourself as a line item in your profit and loss statement is incredibly important. ... Building myself as a line item into the financials was what I needed to do to make this a sustainable business."

When you budget for your business, your compensation shouldn't be what's left over at the end of the month. It must be a foundational expense built entirely into your pricing strategy.

The more sustainable your personal income is, the more longevity and energy you have to pour into your team, your clients, and your community.

Are you treated as a regular line item in your own P&L statement?

Don't miss this crucial episode on developing a healthier, empowering relationship with your numbers.

Could you walk away from $10,000 a month in recurring revenue to protect your team’s peace?

Last year, Alicia Fowler did exactly that. She collectively decided with her team to part ways with two major revenue-generating clients who no longer aligned with where the firm was heading.

The financial dip was real, and the decision was scary. But the long-term payoff was monumental.

Alicia explains the profound shift that happens when you prune a business for growth:

"By saying no to the wrong thing, we were saying yes to the right thing, but it did require letting go and trusting that process, which is incredibly difficult. ... It allows us to say yes to the right thing."

Today, her team has the breathing room and capacity to serve values-aligned clients, and their revenue has bounced back entirely.

As leaders, we often focus on what we need to add to scale up. But sometimes, true expansion requires an intentional subtraction.

What "wrong thing" do you need to say no to this quarter to open space for the right opportunities? Let's discuss.
