We asked coaches, why hockey was great for kids to learn to play.

In our Free to Play after school program, kids are exposed to the game of hockey on our pathway powered by Edmonton Community Foundation through ball hockey. Played in school gyms, Fan Park in downtown’s ICE District, or seen here at the ACT Aquatic and Recreation Centre on game day.

Free Play for Kids is hiring multiple coaching positions, both part-time and full-time, to anchor our growing programs in Maskwacis. One of the most meaningful coaching opportunities in the province!

If you excel at engaging with children and possess exceptional interpersonal skills, we want you on our team.

Part time Head & Assistant Coach positions are approximately 10-15 hours a week, typically Mon to Fri from 3:00 ~ 5:15PM.

The unique full time position combines in-school activation work at Edmonton Free to Play(FTP) school sites in the morning with Head Coaching in Maskwacis in the afternoon on Mon - Wed / Fri with Thur entirely in Maskwacis.

“Hey camera man, take my picture!” On repeat.

It’s the second Game Day of the year uniting kids from all the schools in each region across Edmonton, competing for bragging rights in a mini-tournament, and a chance to practice the social emotional curriculum they have been learning all week in Free to Play after school programming.

This week the kids at the City of Edmonton Recreation Centres ACT Aquatic and Recreation Centre in Rundle Park are so excited about an afternoon of ball hockey, and the camera making the first appearance of the year, they are desperate to capture a photo.

Hence, “hey camera man, take my picture!” On repeat.

Our hockey pathway powered by the Edmonton Community Foundation often starts here on a gym floor with a plastic stick in our Free to Play programming.

And for the record, it is unanimous amongst fans on this gym floor on this particular day, the Oilers are destined for the cup final 😂 🧡💙

Free to Play after school programming across Edmonton is back! And that means one thing on Thursday in City of Edmonton Recreation Centres around the city …

Leader of the Week! 🎉
And one Leader of the Year (from last year) finally getting delivered! 🙌🏽

Every week after each region gets together for Tournament Day at Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre, ACT Aquatic and Recreation Centre, the new Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre, or the Soccer Dome, LOW award certificates and treats go out to one kiddo at each school.

Not the best athlete. Not the most goals. The LOW shows support and sympathy. We celebrate character traits that promote adaptability in our kiddos, resulting in strong young leaders.

With leaders being celebrated amongst their peers, after a day of kicking the ball around in Free to Play, the start of our soccer pathway powered by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is full of leaders on and off the pitch!

What does it mean to wear the Canada jersey? Randy knows better than most. 🇨🇦

Over his career, Randy earned 10 caps for Canada's senior national team, including a goal against Puerto Rico in 2015 and a spot on the 2013 Gold Cup squad. He first wore the badge at the 2009 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, tying for the tournament's top scorer with 3 goals.

Of course, his very first call-up didn't even happen adding another layer to the adversity Randy faces that he has to work through.

"I remember crying in my room. A few months later, another camp came, and I was called up. To represent Canada — that's an honour I'll cherish for the rest of my life."

That's the kind of heart Randy is bringing to the Wolves and our entire soccer pathway powered by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities! ❤️ 🐺

Enjoying the last incredible days of summer here in Edmonton, Joel from the Play Downtown crew heads to O-day’min Park for a little obstacle activity!

There are folks playing basketball, a couple guys playing catch on the grass, a small stage for some sort of performance being assembled, and Play DT activating a blank space of concrete — to the delight of visitors. Winners receiving a Edmonton Downtown Gift Card!

Play DT is partnered with City of Edmonton - Local Government as part of the Downtown Action Plan Fund, will be back at O-day’min Park in downtown Edmonton between 106th & 108th St, just south of 102nd Ave, this Sunday Sep 27 from Noon ~ 2:00PM.

Bring your basketball shoes! 🏀

Edmonton Arts Council will be in the park having some fun as well, so be sure to stop by for a little play in your downtown day!

A staple behind the ball hockey bench for the Wolves Athletic Club, and wearing a red vest coaching Free to Play after school in the Calder gym, Coach Daniel is back for the 26-27! 🎉

Coach Daniel grew up playing various sports including soccer, basketball, baseball, and hockey. A lifetime athlete who started his coaching career with Free Play for Kids and the Wolves ball hockey program on our pathway powered by Edmonton Community Foundation. 🧡💙
