Did you know, in addition to bringing world class music to Edmonton, the ERS is also dedicated to supporting music education in our city, through scholarships and masterclass opportunities?

Last night, a few very lucky and talented young Edmontonian pianists had the chance to perform for Angela Cheng in a masterclass at the Winspear Centre. It was an inspiring class for everyone involved, thank you to the amazing Angela Cheng for her wise words and wonderful teaching!

An exquisite recital from the one and only Angela Cheng last night! Our sold out audience was completely captivated by every note, and we are so grateful to end our 20th anniversary season on such a high note 🎵 ❤️

Thank you to the Winspear Centre for partnering with us several times this season, it has been such a pleasure to present music in such a stunning space.

For all those who joined us this season, thank you for your support and we look forward to bringing you more amazing music in the future.

This Sunday, April 19th, we feature an instrument not as frequently heard in recital: the viola!

We are thrilled to present Ukrainian-American violist MATTHEW COHEN: a dynamic and versatile artist whose captivating performances have made him one of the most sought-after violists of his generation.

Matthew will be joined by his wife, pianist and University of Alberta piano professor, Zhenni Li-Cohen, for an exciting program of music.

Described by The New Yorker as “a thrillingly good pianist”, Zhenni Li-Cohen has performed in concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, the Metropolitan Museum and the Berliner Philharmonie, among many others.

Zhenni is now Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Alberta and will be making her ERS debut, alongside her husband, celebrated violist, Matthew Cohen.

Come hear a virtuosic and exciting program featuring works by Tchaikovsky, Bloch, Paul Coletti, and Rachmaninov.

We are thrilled to present the next concert in our 20th anniversary season, featuring two exciting musicians who have performed all over the world to great acclaim.

ZHENNI LI-COHEN, Professor of Piano at the University of Alberta, teams up with MATTHEW COHEN, to perform a viola and piano recital on Sunday April 19th, 2pm at Holy Trinity Anglican Church.

Zhenni has been described as “an artist of tremendous conviction, who fascinates even as she provokes”, by Gramaphone Magazine.

Matthew made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 15 and has since become one of the most sought after violists of his generation.
