One of the perks of being a Heritage Fest volunteer is the opportunity to apply for our scholarship program! 🎓

This program would not be possible without the generous support of sponsors like the Drs. Kenton and Kenman Gan Awards and the Kay & Steve Hrudey Memorial Fund through the Edmonton Community Foundation. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to recognizing and encouraging the next generation of community-minded volunteers.

The Drs. Kenton and Kenman Gan Awards for Outstanding Community Service are financially supported by Dr. Kenton Gan and Dr. Kenman Gan. Kenton is a family physician in Vancouver and Kenman is an ophthalmologist and eye surgeon working in BC and Alberta. Kenman is also the Medical Director for Care1, a healthcare technology company specializing in telemedicine, big data and artificial intelligence.

Combined, Kenton and Kenman spent over 10 years volunteering with the Edmonton Heritage Festival Association in a variety of leadership roles, including on the Board of Directors. Kenton and Kenman would like to encourage all students to participate in volunteerism and the promotion of multiculturalism through the EHFA. In addition, they would also like to use these awards to recognize the contributions of Marnie Law, past EHFA Volunteer Coordinator, to both the Festival and their personal leadership development.

✨Heritage Festival✨

The Edmonton Heritage Festival (often called Heritage Days) is one of Edmonton’s signature summer events and the world’s largest three-day celebration of multiculturalism. Every August long weekend, more than 60 cultural pavilions representing over 100 countries and cultures come together to share their food, music, dance, crafts, clothing, and traditions. Admission is free.

If you’ve never been, here’s what to expect:

* Food from around the world: You can sample authentic dishes from countries such as Japan, Korea, Vietnam, India, Peru, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, Fiji, Croatia, and many more. Most people spend the day eating their way through multiple pavilions.
* Live performances: Traditional dances, music, martial arts demonstrations, fashion shows, and cultural performances take place on multiple stages throughout the festival.
* Cultural exhibits: Each pavilion usually includes displays about the country’s history, traditions, and community in Alberta, along with crafts and artwork.

For 2026, the festival runs:

* August 1–3
* Free admission
* It has returned to William Hawrelak Park after several years at the Exhibition Lands during the park’s renovations.
