Frozen WWII Medic Dog Found After 80 Years in Ice

High in the Swiss Alps, climbers reportedly made a chilling discovery a frozen German Shepherd emerging from a glacier with a saddlebag still strapped to its back. When researchers opened the preserved bag, they found medical supplies morphine bandages and maps dated 1944 connected to a mission during World War II.

The markings suggested the dog had been trained as a medic messenger for the International Committee of the Red Cross, carrying aid to wounded soldiers after an ambush. But somewhere along the journey, the glacier swallowed the animal mid mission and the supplies never reached the soldiers who needed them.

Nearly eighty years later, the ice finally released the silent messenger. The discovery is a powerful reminder of the loyalty courage and sacrifice of animals who served beside humans in wartime heroes whose stories are rarely told but never forgotten. 🐕❄️🕊️

It is with great pride that we announce the registration of Search and Rescue titles on the pedigree of yet another CASDDA dog.
Remi is the second dog in Canada to have his Search and Rescue titles and Certifications recognized by the CKC and included behind his name.
Our Remi is now officially Sir Re*****on Charles RH-FL V, RH-T A.
Congratulations to Remi and his Handler Jessica for such an achievement. The IRO Tests are known for being amongst the most difficult Search and Rescue qualifications. We are so very proud of you!

It was so cold this past weekend, -30C. plus the windshield! And off course, we were unable to make our Chalet Heater work! Yet, what a wonderful training we had. Lots of hard work, lots of progress, lots of play and lots of fun. Not everyone showed up, probably due to the weather but all those who did attend had a great time. The dogs had the perfect drive and enjoyed every exercise with the most happy disposition. Happy dogs means great work!
Thank you to all those who attended for your great humour and for your hard work with your dogs and motivating the other dogs.
A training weekend to remember!

A wonderful rescue.

CASDDA was asked to assist in the search of a missing person believed to have drowned.
3 dogs and 3 Handlers were deployed and worked for 3 consecutive days. The conditions were very difficult as we had to deal with a frozen lake, deep snow on the shoreline, very cold temperature and a noticeable windshield. Despites the many hours the HEART Team spent to brake the ice on the lake with their airboat, the dogs could not pick up the scent with any certainty and we were unable to locate the missing person.
We would like to thank everyone involved in the search, and the local communities for their kindness and for making our work as easy as possible.
Our prayers remains with the family and the community of the missing person.
The search continues.
