We have live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night for a nominal cover charge of $10 per legion mber and$15 non In the fall of 1945, a group of Veterans applied for a Canadian Legion Charter for a branch to be called “Alexander Branch”. The Charter was granted but the name was rejected because there was another Branch that had registered the name. Portage Avenue in Edmonton was renamed to
Kingsway after the Royal visit in 1939, so the Branch settled on “Kingsway Branch”. The Charter was finalized on February 7, 1946. Members’ wives wanted to take a more active role in the Branch, so a Ladies Auxiliary to the Kingsway Legion was formed on August 23, 1948. In 1946, a successful bid was made for the Auxiliary Services Quonset Hut on Kingsway and the Branch became a viable entity. Membership began to increase and an addition was built with a volunteer contractor and volunteer labour by the members. By 1959, the old “Quonset Hut” had badly deteriorated and the membership decided that a new building was in order. A disastrous fire struck the Branch in July of 1982, destroying the interior of the building. On July 24, 1983, the restored premises were ready for full occupancy and the official re-opening took place. In January 2008, the City Of Edmonton expropriated the Branch and Property for the Light Rapid Transit expansion. In March 2008, the members voted on relocation. The current property located at 14339-50 ST, Edmonton was purchased and in March 2010, the shovels went into the ground on the 4.3 acre plot. This new building was officially opened on November 11, 2012.
