Hosted by the Canadian Centre for the Study of Co-operatives, this webinar tackles a question our sector has been wrestling with for years: if Canadians generally feel positively about co-operatives, why is awareness of the model still so low? Join Charlie Graves of Modus Research for new insights from a national survey on perceptions, participation, regional sentiment, and what may help grow understanding of co-operatives across Canada. As 2025 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on what becomes possible when the co-operative sector is willing to step forward together.

This year, work led in Alberta took a different approach to co-operative awareness, supported by organizations willing to invest in direction rather than certainty. The result was meaningful momentum and new connections across the province and beyond.

We’ve shared a reflection on what this work revealed, the role Legacy Builders played, and why it matters as we look ahead.

What 55,650 conversations revealed about co-op awareness, belonging, and the role of Alberta's Legacy Builders in building long-term sector capacity.

The afternoon of Day One did not disappoint at the Alberta Co-operative Conference.

Following the lunch break, Gael MacLeod MBA, ICD.D from Calgary Co-op introduced Session Four: Bob Fink, Kirsten Holt, Stan Yu, Audra Krueger, and Vik Maraj discussing Being a Co-operative Leader: Co-ops, Coffee, and Conversation.

Next, Session Five featured Corinne Remple, Executive Director of ACCA, and Rebecca Haberstock-McKnight where they presented: Driving the Co-op Conversation: ACCA’s Year in Motion. They shared how ACCA is sparking new energy for the co-op model through the Co-op Connection Tour and Business Not As Usual campaign, connecting leaders, amplifying stories, and driving the co-op conversation forward.

We wrapped up the afternoon with Member Spotlight #2: CSS Pension Plan (Co-operative Superannuation Society)– Tami Dove presenting Scalable Member Experience for Co-operatives: Lessons from CSS

Our keynote session set an incredible tone for the conference.

We were honoured to have David Coletto from Abacus Data Inc. deliver a compelling presentation titled "From Scarcity to Precarity... and What it Means for Alberta’s Co-operatives." His insights into shifting values, generational change, and the evolving economic landscape had the room fully engaged and inspired.

A special thank-you to Tina Marleau from Alberta Co-operative Energy, our principal Legacy Builder, for introducing David and highlighting the importance of co-operative leadership in shaping Alberta’s future.

A powerful conversation to kick off our learning and collaboration.

Our first sessions of the 2025 Alberta Co-operative Conference set an inspiring tone for the days ahead.

Bob Fink from UFA Co-operative opened our program by introducing our first presenters, Stan Yu and the Canadian Co-operative Youth Education Program Alumni from Canadian Centre for the Study of Co-operatives. Their session explored how co-operative youth education is shaping future leaders and strengthening the co-op movement across Canada.

Next, Corinne Remple, ACCA Executive Director, welcomed our first Member Spotlight featuring NACHA with Executive Director Ayanna Inniss, joined by Kyle White from Co-operatives First. They shared insights into the next evolution of co-op housing in Alberta, highlighting how Community Land Trust models can build growth and affordability for our communities.

A powerful start to a conference focused on innovation, leadership, and building a resilient co-operative future.

What a welcome to City of Medicine Hat! 🌞

The ACCA Co-op Sector Growth & Connection Tour made its stop here — and by complete chance, we ran into Linnsie Clark - Mayor of Medicine Hat at the Saamis Tepee.

It turned into such a great conversation — we were genuinely impressed by her knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the co-operative model. Encounters like this remind us how many Alberta leaders recognize the power of locally owned solutions.

We’re excited to keep the conversation going today as we kick off Tour Stop #4 here in Medicine Hat!
