Sport Central Gently used sports equipment is collected and sorted. Repairs are made to ensure the equipment is safe and serviceable.

Changing Lives Through Sport:
We receive gently used sports equipment (and Bikes!), repair & refurbish it, then redistribute to Kids, ages 4-17, in the Greater Edmonton Area. New equipment is often purchased to supplement supply and meet safety standards. "Kids" are referred by individuals or referral agencies, including schools, government departments, and the Edmonton Police Services, and are outfitted by volunteers in the Sport Central shop.

🙌 WINNING WORDS 🙌

"My family and I recently relocated to Edmonton, AB, and we were referred to Sport Central by a newcomer agency. We had an amazing experience with them. My daughters received two bicycles along with helmets, and they absolutely loved them. The team at Sport Central is doing an incredible job, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to every member contributing to this cause. Your efforts are truly making a difference for families and children, making their transitions easier. Keep up the great work!"

🚲 Access to a bike opens the door to many new adventures, and we’re here to make them possible for more kids!

💙🏒 HAPpy Hockey Kids! 🏒🧡

“As a single parent with one income, I am beyond grateful for the support Sport Central provided my family. Their generosity in helping with equipment for my son, made it possible for him to continue playing the sport he loves. Hockey has been such a positive outlet for him, helping build his confidence, friendships, and life skills. Without this support, it would have been extremely difficult for me to afford everything he needed. Thank you for making a real difference in our lives and for giving children like Kyson the opportunity to participate in sports regardless of their family's financial situation. We will always be thankful for kindness and generosity."

Having the right equipment means kids like Kyson can keep playing, building friendships and growing their confidence both on and off the ice.

Through the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and their Every Kid Deserves a Shot initiative, the Oil Country Hockey Assist Program (HAP) is helping make hockey more accessible for kids across Oil Country.

♥️♻️THANK YOU ALBERTA ECO-TRUST♥️♻️

We’d like to share our sincere gratitude to Alberta Ecotrust Foundation for the funding they provided to us to build capacity, and standardize our (New) procedures in our new home.

The result is a stronger more resilient Sport Central: less waste, more reuse and approving model for keeping tens of thousands of items in play each year.

Better repaired & redistributed into the hands of kids, than in the landfill forever.

🚲 THANKS FOR KEEPING THE GOOD TIMES ROLLING! 🚲

You brought the bikes. You spread the word. You kept the wheels turning for the kids we serve! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who joined Sport Central’s 4th Annual Bike Drive, in partnership with Fountain Tire . Together, you donated 602 bikes to be refurbished for kids next summer and contributed $2,275 toward 13 brand-new 20” and 24” bikes, the sizes we need most.

From bikes pulled out of garages to volunteers unloading donations, every contribution brought us closer to more kids enjoying the freedom and fun of riding. 🙌

A big thank you to our partners:

📍 Fountain Tire Canada and United Sport & Cycle for making it easy for the community to drop off bikes and give them a fresh start.

🚚 Eager Beaver Moving and Storage for picking up donated bikes and delivering them to Sport Central.

📦 BigSteelBox for providing storage units and keeping donations safe and secure.

🎙️ 840 CFCW , Sports 1440 , 96.3 The Breeze and K-97 for turning up the volume on our Bike Drive! Thank you for sharing our call for bikes with your listeners and encouraging the community to get involved.

🥇 A special shout-out to Kelsey Mitchell for cheering on our Bike Drive and reminding us that even an Olympic champion started out as a kid on a bike! Thank you for inspiring the next generation of riders.

To our donors, volunteers and everyone who passed the message along, thank you for putting more summer adventures within reach.

Here’s to new riders, neighbourhood bike rides and plenty of “watch me go!” moments ahead. 🚲❤️

🧡 EVERY CHILD MATTERS 🧡

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Sport Central honours the children who never came home, the survivors of Residential Schools, and the families and communities forever affected. We stand with Indigenous peoples in recognizing their resilience and commit to walking the path of understanding, healing, and reconciliation.

Since 1991, Sport Central has proudly worked to uplift Indigenous kids. We believe in the power of sports to heal, unite, and empower. We aim to create a more equitable and inclusive society by closing the gaps that exist between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians.

Please note that Sport Central’s office, which stands on Treaty 6 territory, will be closed on Wednesday, September 30th, in observance of this important day.

🥞JOKE & A PANCAKE🥞

Who doesn’t love pancakes?!

It started with last year’s Christmas brunch when we made a nice potluck breakfast/lunch. Kyle made bacon. Fast forward to this year in our new space with our large staff / volunteer space and we were all sitting around the table reminiscing about that bacon. 🥓

So, we decided instead of going out for lunch on this month’s staff meeting day, we’d make breakfast—in!

The work we get to do is fulfilling but enjoying each other’s company at times like this is the syrup on top. 🥞
