Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society - GEARS Our vision is simple: We are gearing towards a future where animals are treated with compassion and respect. (822791430RR0001)
Our purpose is to:

1.

Our mission is to provide force-free compassionate care as a foster home-based animal rescue; focusing on rehabilitation and responsible rehoming. Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS) is a non-profit organization. Identify and take into immediate foster care, animals that are:
a. Stray, abandoned, or homeless
b. May face homelessness due to owner death or placement in a higher level of care
c. Owned by someone leaving an abusive situation

2. Train and rehabilitate rescued animals, bringing out their full potential. All animals will receive vet care as required, and will be vaccinated and spayed/neutered prior to adoption.

3. Find suitable approved foster and adoptive homes for rescued animals based on animal characteristics and an in-depth screening of potential homes.

4. Provide education and assistance to adoptive homes, ensuring the permanent welfare of the adopted animal.

5. Educate the public on GEARS mission, vision, and goals, as well as responsible pet ownership, animal interaction, and animal welfare.

6. Support and collaborate with local organizations and businesses with the goal of improving the lives of animals in Alberta.

🐾 Puppy Foster Homes Needed 🐾

Say hello to Marmot, Mink, Otter, and Goose — a ridiculously cute quartet of puppies who just came into GEARS care from the Northwest Territories. They’re tiny, wiggly, curious, and currently mastering the art of chaos with charm.

These pups won’t be available for adoption until they’ve been fully vetted, but they are looking for foster homes!

If you’ve ever thought, ā€œI could probably handle a few zoomies,ā€ or ā€œI have room in my heart for a small gremlin,ā€ fostering might be your calling. GEARS provides supplies, support, and guidance — you provide the snuggles and the safe place to grow.

Help us welcome these four and make space for more pups who need a soft landing.

Name: Pippin

Age: ~6 months (as of Sep/26)
Gender: Female
Breed: Water Queen (Retriever X)
Weight: 30lb (~50lbs fully grown)
Energy: 8-9/10

Good With:
Dogs: Yes with introductions
Cats: Yes with introductions
Kids: Yes

Rescue Story: Pippin and her brother were found as strays and transferred to GEARS through a partner organization.

About Me: Hi! I’m Pippin, but they call me Pip!
Need a foot warmer? I’m your gal! I love to stay right by your side. But not just your side, everyone’s side! I would love to meet everyone and get belly rubs from everyone. The more the better!

I have a lot of energy, can I come with you on your family adventures? I may seem a little bit nervous with something new at first, but I only need a couple minutes and some treats to be willing to give it a try. I got to try some cool things already, like paddle boarding! At the end of the day I looovvveee to snuggle up with my people and some blankets.

Im doing fairly well at not pulling on the leash while on walks. I get excited about other dogs or animals, but I really like my treats so myfoster mom just asks me to sit nicely and distracts me. I have learned that the crate is my safe space, I stay in there overnight and when my family is at work during the day. I’m still young so I sometimes will wake you up once to let me out to p*e overnight, but I’ve learned to go back to bed. I know I’m supposed to go outside to go to the bathroom, but I haven’t quite figured out how to tell my foster family when I need to go to the bathroom. As long as I make it outside at reasonable intervals, I have no accidents.

I currently live with another young dog, and 2 cats. I am the instigator of all of the play time with the other dog. I love the cats! I would love if they would play with me, but they are older so they ignore me. Every once in a while my puppy brain can’t help but think that their big poofy tails would be fun to nibble on, so I’m not left alone with the cats quite yet. But I swear I just want to be their friend!

So can I be your new bestie? I can help you with house work and yard work, go for a walk and then we could watch a movie together! Does that sound good?

Good with:
Cats: Yes
Dogs: Unknown
Kids: Unknown

Rescue Story: Hercules and his brother were found as strays and brought into GEARS’ care through our Sheltered Paws program

Hi! My name is Hercules, but my foster family calls me Dexter for some reason.😊

I’m a gorgeous kitty with big, beautiful eyes, a curious personality, and an awesome meow that sounds a lot like a bird (and sometimes a rubber chicken—especially when there’s food coming)!

When my brother, Helios, and I first arrived at our foster home, we were very scared of humans. We spent our first weeks huddled together and hiding. With time, patience, and the companionship of the resident foster cat, our confidence slowly grew, and we discovered that people—and life outside our hiding spots—weren’t so scary after all!

Helios was a little braver than me and gradually became comfortable with pets, being handled, and even curling up on laps. After watching him, I started letting the humans pet me too. I soon discovered how wonderful it felt and now seek them out for pets! I even jump up for lap naps and cuddle against my foster mom’s legs at night. I’m SO proud of myself, and so are my foster parents!

I LOVE toys, especially wand toys—I can jump impressively high! I also enjoy chasing balls and I’m quite the soccer player. Wrestling and playing with the other cats is another favourite pastime, and when I’m ready to relax, you’ll often find me lounging in a sunny spot.

I’m also super curious! I’ll sit and stare at you no matter what you’re doing, and I have to investigate anything new that comes into the house. If it’s shiny, you can bet I’ll be carrying it around in my mouth.

I’m still a little reactive to sudden noises and movements, so I may get jumpy and run, but I quickly realize I’m safe and come right back.

A friendly, confident cat companion may help me feel more comfortable, although I could potentially be happy as an only cat. And if you happen to be looking for a pair, I absolutely adore my brother, Helios (and so would you).šŸ’–

I’m looking for a special home where my people will let me set the pace and give me the patience and encouragement I need to keep building my confidence. I may or may not be an instant lap cat, but I’m a wonderfully sweet, playful kitty who has already come a long way. Watching me continue to blossom will be incredibly rewarding!

Come meet me and see if you can earn yourself a spot in my very exclusive circle of trust!

Love, Hercules 🐾

Rescue Story: Billy Bob and his siblings were found as strays and transferred to GEARS care through a partner organization

Hi there, I’m Billy Bob!

My two littermates and I were living outdoors through a very rainy summer before being brought to GEARS. I was so hungry from my time outside that when I finally saw food, I just couldn't stop eating! My wonderful foster mom is incredibly patient with me and even gave me a special slow-feeding bowl to help me pace myself.

I’m a typical, fun-loving puppy who enjoys playing with just about anything. My absolute favourite game is chase, which I love playing with my foster parents and foster siblings. I'm lucky enough to have a large fenced yard to run around in, but as much as I love to play hard, I nap even harder.

My foster mom always says I’m incredibly smart—with a capital S! I already know basic commands like sit, stay, and shake a paw. We are currently working on "lay down," and I promise I'm getting the hang of it. I love learning new things and practicing my recall, especially since it means I get treats. Did I mention how much I love food?

When my foster family is away, my kennel/pen serve as my safe space where I comfortably sleep, eat, and play. I'm also doing fantastic with house training; I go to the door when I need to go outside and rarely have accidents. Plus, my leash walking is improving every day because I've learned that staying focused leads to even more tasty treats.

I can't wait to find my furever home.
Could that be you?
