Every graduate’s story begins long before the cap and gown.

It begins with first classrooms, first books, first friendships and first discoveries.

In Alberta’s public schools, students build the foundations that shape every future path—learning to read, solve problems, work with others and grow in confidence along the way.

As trustees, one of the greatest privileges we have is witnessing that journey unfold over time—from a student’s first day of school to the moment they cross the graduation stage.

This graduation season, we celebrate not only achievement, but the years of learning, growth and support that helped make it possible.

Every journey starts somewhere. For the majority of Alberta’s students, it starts in public schools.

A pot of adobo simmering on the stove. A lola's laugh filling the whole house. A family that shows up—for each other, and for everyone around them.

The Filipino spirit of community is a gift that reaches far beyond any one household.

June is , a time to honour the rich culture, traditions and contributions of Filipino Canadians. More than 210,000 Filipinos call Alberta home.

Public school boards celebrate that spirit. The values at the heart of Filipino culture—family, community and caring for one another—are the same values many public schools work to foster and maintain so students can find success.

It's National Indigenous History Month! As we learned at our Indigenous Education Panel last Saturday, Truth and Reconciliation start with learning the truth, but action must follow.

A red shirt pulled from the closet. A visible reminder that accessibility is action, not just understanding.

Today is , which is a part of National AccessAbility Week, where Canadians wear red in support of those with visible and non-apparent disabilities.

With the increase to provincial funding for classroom complexity, many public school boards are providing more supports for students with disabilities. The also continues to advocate for sustained funding to address this complexity—and for collaboration across systems in tackling it.

A story told at a kitchen table. A familiar face at class concerts, graduations and school events. Seniors don't just support our communities—they helped build them.

This week is ! Take this opportunity to show appreciation to a senior that has impacted your life for the better.

Public school boards see the impact of seniors inside and outside of the classroom. From grandparents cheering in the stands to seniors teaching in a school club, older adults play a meaningful role in the lives of students—and remind us that learning is truly a lifelong journey.
