One of the primary duties of a millwright is to install new machinery and equipment. A new independent study finds that union Labour is both more productive and more cost-effective than open-shop Labour.

Researchers from Independent Project Analysis (IPA) looked at 140 completed projects in B.C. and Alberta. They found that union skilled trades were 17% more productive, construction labour costs were 16% lower, and total project costs were 7% lower on average. As Canada gets ready to build a generation of major projects, the evidence shows the value of a skilled, trained workforce.
