Millwrights Local 1460 Alberta

Millwrights Local 1460 Alberta Millwright Union based in Alberta - Millwright Regional Council of Canada. UBC Millwrights.

Millwrights, also known as industrial mechanics, are professionals who install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot complex mechanical systems found in various industrial settings, such as manufacturing plants, power generation facilities, and mining operations. They are skilled tradespeople who possess a deep understanding of the complex mechanical systems that make up these industrial facilities.

In general, millwrights work with a wide range of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, conveyors, and robots. They are responsible for inspecting and maintaining these machines to ensure they are functioning at optimal levels. They are also responsible for repairing or replacing any worn or damaged parts that may be causing issues. These tasks may require the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment to ensure that equipment is properly calibrated and aligned. One of the primary duties of a millwright is to install new machinery and equipment. This may involve assembling and disassembling large and complex machines, accurately positioning and aligning components, and connecting them to the facility's power supply, air, or water sources. Millwrights must also interpret and follow complex schematics, blueprints, and other technical documents to ensure that the machinery is installed correctly and safely. Another essential aspect of a millwright's job is preventative maintenance. They often perform routine inspections of machinery and components to detect potential problems before they occur. This may involve lubricating and cleaning machinery, replacing worn or damaged parts, and tightening or adjusting components to ensure that everything is working as it should. By performing regular preventative maintenance, the millwright can help save the company the cost and loss of productivity from emergency repairs. In addition to their technical skills, millwrights also need strong communication and problem-solving skills. They must be able to work collaboratively with other trades, such as electricians and pipefitters, to ensure that all aspects of the industrial facility are working in concert. Additionally, they must be able to troubleshoot complex problems, identify the root cause of the issue, and develop a creative solution. Overall, millwrights play a critical role in keeping industrial facilities running smoothly. They possess a vast amount of knowledge and expertise in the mechanical systems that drive these facilities and are essential in maintaining and modifying the equipment to keep it operating efficiently.

Today, we pause to remember the workers who have been injured, made ill, or lost their lives on the job. As union members, we know that every worker deserves to go home safe at the end of the day.

Look out for one another, speak up for safety, and never let production come before people.

April 28 marks the National Day of Mourning. Today, we pause to remember and honour the workers who lost their lives, were injured, or fell ill due to their work.

Please take care of yourself and your crew, and let’s all strengthen our commitment to a strong safety culture. Everyone deserves to return home safely after every shift.
