Miya’s heart lies in the community services her church provides. Although she and her husband have only been at Yorkminster Citadel for a few months they have already seen the impact that its food bank, music program and other community services has in the local community.

Before she became part of The Salvation Army, Miya was aware of its presence in her hometown, but it wasn’t until she met her now husband that she started to get involved in the church.

“When I knew that I could be part of a faith community that was founded on outreach to people that need help, then that was what really drew me in,” Miya says.

She appreciates that The Salvation Army focuses on wellness and makes time for their staff to step away and refill to be better able to give back.

🍂 This Thanksgiving, hope was served around the table in Calgary!

The The Salvation Army, Glenmore Temple recently launched a new monthly community meal, bringing neighbours together through warm food, meaningful conversations and a sense of belonging.

Open to everyone, these free community meals offer more than nourishment. They create opportunities to build connections, strengthen community ties and remind those facing difficult times that they are not alone. ❤️

While Thanksgiving has passed, the spirit of gratitude, generosity and community continues all year long.

Just before the Thanksgiving long weekend, The Salvation Army’s Glenmore Temple will start an initiative to bring neighbours together around the dinner table.

Delicia Carvery used to work in the corporate world, but after a restructure she found herself looking for an organization that aligned with her personal values. When she read the mission statement of The Salvation Army, she was inspired to apply.

Nearly 21 years later, Delicia loves working for The Salvation Army and meeting people where they’re at. Delicia connects donors with the impact of their giving, showing them how The Salvation Army makes a difference.

She is inspired by hearing donors’ stories and brings that joy to every interaction.

“I love sharing that with people⎯being that bright light and giving that hope back to people⎯blessing them before I end every call,” Delicia says.
