Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton is an organization of excellence in the area of support services for children with autism and other developmental disorders. We have dedicated, dynamic and qualified professionals providing family-centered programming. Our Community Programs & Services Manager, Paige, travelled to Regina, Saskatchewan to provide clinical consultation. She consulted in 12 different classrooms in 3 schools across 3 days, and she noted that the Regina Catholic Schools team were inherently collaborative and talented.

We love to share our expertise with any schools or programs who would like to see an emotional regulation approach in action.

Fact Friday!

While it is not the case that mutual regulation gives way to self regulation only, it is important to start with mutual regulation at first. Even while self-regulation strategies begin to take effect, mutual regulation will continue to have a role for many autistic individuals.

Next month, we will be holding a five day session for Safe Management Group Crisis Intervention Train The Trainer (TTT).

By the end of the five days, participants will be certified to train the SMG program at their respective organizations.

This program includes all Trainer resources to ensure quality training within your agency/ organization, including a Trainer Manual, Learning Trak (physical competency checklist), PowerPoints, De-escalation Videos and access to our Trainer Portal.

This is ideal for organizations who want to bring SMG "in-house", so their own trainers can train their staff over time.

Learn to Skate with EPIC Stepping Stones to Hockey! We have a few spots remaining, so contact us right away if you'd like to join us on Sunday mornings at Maier Centre West from October 25 to December 6, 2026. A CAN Skate instructor will be on hand to teach us the fundamentals on practice ice, then the last few sessions will be at an arena on real ice.

Last week, we had the opportunity to visit Wolf Creek Public Schools in Ponoka, AB, for a training in Safe Management Group (SMG). We use SMG to train all of our staff who work with autistic children in Edmonton, so our Quality Improvement Manager/ Safe Management Trainer, Anna, was happy to work with a great team there.

We are thrilled to see these skills being implemented in educational settings in Central Alberta.

We use Safe Management Group (SMG) to train all of our staff who work with autistic children. Our Quality Improvement Manager/ Safe Management Trainer, Anna, visited Connect Society for SMG Training.

As this team primarily serves deaf and hard of hearing students/ children, many of the signs and communications needed to be adapted to these needs. We found it very informative, and it shows just how universal yet adaptable SMG techniques can be.
