Walk and Roll

Walk and Roll Hi I’m Natasha. Some of you might know me personally, others may not. So I thought that I would write a little about me to get us better acquainted.

Natasha Urkow was in a serious single motor vehicle crash on the Whitemud, Oct 28th, 2008. She broke her neck and her back in ten places and ruptured her spleen and bruised her lungs. After being brought back to life at the scene of the crash she was rushed to the U of A hospital and spend the next year between that hospital and the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. After being diagnosed as a quad

riplegic, the doctors said that she would not breath, eat, or even talk on her own again, let alone walk. Throughout the course of the next year, her family and friends got together and raised close to $10,000 which was used to send her and two caregivers to Virginia to an MRIA clinic which specializes in Magnetic therapy. After 250 hours laying under a machine similar to and MRI machine, she came back with improvement such as - not needing a head rest, better movement of her left arm and increased sensation and bladder and bowel functions. During this year she had the privilege of attending Project Walk in California, which is an amazing facility that works on exercise and fitness to regain the muscle memory which is the first step to being able to walk again. This clinic too is extremely expensive and our health care system does not cover any of this. It was here that she knew intense training would, with qualified trainers, give her hope that she was looking for. Coupled with her determination we are very excited with the progress.
