With the arrival of Spring, ticks are making themselves known. When out for an adventure with your dog, please make sure that you are checking them over for ticks. Our friends Alberta Veterinary Medical Association share some tips on how to do just that.

Ticks often attach in places pet owners don’t immediately think to check.

Ticks that carry Lyme disease can be found in many outdoor environments, and pets may be exposed during walks, time in the yard, or visits to parks and wooded areas. Because ticks often attach in hidden spots, a quick check after outdoor activity is an important way to help reduce risk.

Focus on areas like around the ears, under the collar, between the toes, under the legs, and near the tail. Finding and removing ticks early can help lower the chance of disease transmission.

If you find a tick or have questions about prevention, speak with your veterinarian about the best protection plan for your pet.

Wake up you sleepy heads! It might be gloomy outside but inside MacEwan's Robbins Health Centre it's going to pawsitively delightful!

International Cat Festival is today and as mainstage sponsor, we're feline very excited for the day!

There will be great activities and speakers throughout the day. Come by our Boot #8 to chat with our team, try your hand at some Spin to Win trivia and purchase a pet licence for your feline friend! We'll be on the mainstage at 3:30pm celebrating Edmonton's Most Purr-fect Cat Photo Contest awarding the top three submissions! They're too cute to miss. Who knows, maybe the next Celebrity Cat will be found in the mix.

We were thrilled to host the Girl Guide Ember Unit at the Animal Care and Control Centre (ACCC) in early May! Our Animal Control Officer team provided a fun, hands-on, and interactive education session, which included a behind-the-scenes tour and an opportunity to experience what it might be like to catch a dog on the loose.

A major highlight was the special dog bite prevention program called "Be a Tree," which helps educate children on how to be safe around dogs—both dogs they know and those they don’t—by teaching them how to read dog body language.

A great time was had by all, and the Girl Guides walked away with a new set of skills for engaging safely with animals and being future responsible pet owners.

Dog bites are a serious public safety issue; our Animal Control Peace Officers respond to hundreds of dog bite incidents every year. The good news is that almost all bites are preventable and start with responsible pet ownership.

some heat out.
