United For Change Edmonton's statement about Pride Fest's heavy police presence at their 2026 Pride Parade.
United For Change Edmonton is extremely disappointed and disheartened by the news that Pride Fest will have a heavy police presence this year at their Parade. As an organization who is founded by marginalized community members who are Black, Q***r, and Trans, and whom have been assaulted by police several times at our events, and counter protests we have held, we are extremely disappointed. This is a reminder that we need to listen to our BIPOC, 2spirit, TRANS, and Non-binary community members who have been oppressed by the police in our communities history, and are being oppressed this year with Pride Fests involvement with the EPS. This is also an important reminder that Prides roots where built on riots and oppression caused by police. Our communities roots have been built on the backbone of BIPOC, Trans, and Marginalized Communities, and its important we listen to them when there is a bigger problem at hand, especially when it involves police.
