You are invited to join the Alberta Baroque Ensemble for our 46th concert season and experience why the Alberta Baroque Ensemble is a premier chamber orchestra that specializes in music composed in the 17th and 18th centuries. Our five concert productions of this great music will include something for everyone. You will hear music for strings, flute, oboe, horn and choir in works by well-known composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Handel and Antonio Vivaldi and not so well-known composers like Richter and Zelenka. Our collection of Baroque music is played in a unique Baroque manner by a group of polished performers plus outstanding soloists like violinist Laura Veeze and oboist June Kim that is sure to please you. All concerts are held at Robertson-Wesley United Church on Sundays starting at 3p.m.
The season opens on Sunday, October 25, 2026, with 18th Century Music from Central Europe. Our soloist for this concert is Sarah Pollard, Assistant Principal Flute of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, who will perform the Concerto for Flute in E Minor by Franz Richter. Music by Gluck, Zelenka and Michael Haydn complete the program.
The Music for a Festive Season concert is one of the most celebrated holiday events in Edmonton. The concert will take place on Sunday, November 29, 2026, with works by Schiassi, Handel, Vivaldi and JS Bach. Guest soloists for this concert are soprano Jolaine Kerley, tenor John Tessier, and making their ABE debut are bass Roderick Bryce and I Coristi Chamber Choir.
Concerts in the New Year begin on Sunday January 31, 2027, with Bach and Sons. You will hear Sinfonias by Johann Sebastian sons Johann Christoph Friedrich, Carl Philipp Emanuel and Wilhem Friedemann as well as the Concerto for Oboe and Violin by Johann Sebastian with oboist June Kim and violinist Laura Veeze as soloists.
Sunday, February 21, 2027, sees four members of the Alberta Baroque Ensemble perform works specifically composed for small chamber groups in a concert called Baroque Chamber Music Treasures. Violinists Susan Flook and Anita Walsh, cellist Ronda Metszies and harpsichordist Tammy-Jo Mortensen will perform music by J.S. Bach, Leclair, Vivaldi, Corelli and Handel.
The Alberta Baroque Ensemble will close out its 46th season on Sunday, May 2, 2027, with Virtuoso Horns. This concert will feature Allene Hackleman and Ryan Garbett, two amazing Franch horn players, who will perform concertos by Heinichen and Telemann. Rounding out the concert will be sinfonias by Sammartini, Hasse and Locatelli.
