On the snowy day of February 18, 2026, the auditorium at the Alberta Teachers’ Association was filled with teachers, students, participants, and staff from the Canadian Multicultural Education Foundation, all united in taking action against racism in our schools.

Students from M.E. LaZerte and Ross Sheppard High Schools courageously shared personal experiences of racism and presented thoughtful, in-depth strategies to help reduce racism in schools and the broader community.

Organized by the Canadian Multicultural Education Foundation (CMEF) and funded by the City of Edmonton, the event also featured keynote speaker Vasant Chotai, who explored the deeper roots of racism. Drawing from his own personal experiences, he offered powerful insights that resonated with participants. Attendees were also provided with a complimentary lunch during the session.
