Lehr-Haus, German for "House of Learning"
Our goal is to support the city of Edmonton and its various groups by programming a space to foster convivial encounter and engagement across various religious and secular communities. We are a community-based group working to build understanding and dialogue within our society. “Lehr(en)” is German for teaching and the name has been chosen to honour the h

eritage of the German Lutheran community who built the original church building and to echo the twentieth century's finest philosopher of dialogue, Martin Buber (1878-1965). It is our goal to support those making the affordable housing units home, the King Edward community and the city of Edmonton and its various cultural communities by programming a space to foster the particular gifts found in each community and our common interests as citizens of Edmonton, nurturing our common life through convivial encounter and engagement. Lehr-Haus intends to involve a variety of religious, secular, civil, and cultural communities to deepen our understanding of respective traditions, address a range of contemporary social and cultural challenges, and nurture a healthy cultural and social life in our civil society.
