Today, we remember the workers who stood their ground at Ballantyne Pier in Vancouver on June 18, 1935. They faced police batons, tear gas, and violence because they dared to demand dignity, fair treatment, and the right to a voice at work. Their courage helped shape the labour rights and protections that workers continue to fight for today.
The Battle of Ballantyne Pier reminds us that progress is never handed down - it is won through solidarity, sacrifice, and collective action.
As union members, we honour those who came before us by continuing their fight for fairness, respect, and justice on every job site. Their struggle was our foundation. Their courage remains our call to action.
