We appreciate MP Zuberi for raising critical questions on transparency regarding Canada’s recent $120 million aid commitment to Sudan. Accountability is essential to ensure that this funding reaches those in urgent need - families on the ground and in neighboring countries facing unbearable conditions.

We hope the Canadian government will prioritize directing support Sudanese organizations on the ground that are equipped to respond effectively, and that can clearly document and report on how these funds are being used. Transparency is vital to making sure aid truly makes a difference.

04/20/2026

Thank you to Sameer Zuberi for continuing to speak on Sudan.

Sudan is entering its fourth year of war and remains the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, 33.7 million people in need. Let that number sit with you.

Canada announced $120 million at the Berlin Conference this week. We are grateful. But the 2026 UN Response Plan needs $2.87 Billion, and only 17.3% has been funded. For refugees alone, $1.6 billion is needed and only 10% is secured.

This is not a funding shortfall. This is a death sentence for millions.

As Sudanese Canadians, we are asking for more, and asking differently:

✅ Consult us. We are not recipients of this conversation. We are essential partners. No Sudan strategy gets built without Sudanese voices.

✅ Fund and work in collaboartion with Sudanese-led organizations on the ground directly. They have the trust and the reach. Get the money to them without delay.

✅ Canada must lead, not just contribute. Mobilize allies. Close the gap. Make Sudan impossible to ignore.

We have been carrying this for three years, financially, emotionally, spiritually. We are grateful for those who speak. Now we need leaders who act.

We urge our community to share this. Tag your MP. Keep Sudan on the agenda.

For almost three years now, active members of the Sudanese community across Canada have met with several Members of Parliament to raise urgent concerns about the worsening situation in Sudan and the ongoing delays in the family reunification process.

Thanks to this strong community engagement, through calls, meetings, and continued advocacy, Canadas immigration pathways for Sudanese will be a topic of conversation at this morning’s Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration (CIMM), presenting between 11am – 12PM EST.

This is a direct result of community persistence and advocacy. It’s an important opportunity for all of us to tune in, share widely, and follow up with our MPs afterward.

Our collective efforts brought us here, and sustained engagement will ensure there is action and accountability.

Please join us in listening today.

On February 16, the United Nations reported that over 6,000 civilians were killed in just three days in El Fasher, Darfur, Sudan, in attacks described as war crimes and ethnic cleansing. Two Canadian-connected companies have been linked to equipment used in this conflict:

1. Sterling Cross Defense Systems — based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Rifles made by this company have been visually documented in RSF hands.

2. Streit Group — Canadian-owned with offices in Midland and Innisfil, Ontario, headquartered and producing armoured vehicles in the UAE. Streit armoured vehicles have been heavily used by the RSF, making them a major contributor to ongoing violence in Sudan.

These weapons are reaching the RSF through indirect channels, often via the UAE, bypassing Canada’s arms embargo on Sudan and the Arms Trade Treaty obligations.

Canadian-made rifles and vehicles are actively fueling the war and killing civilians in Sudan.

Contact your representatives and demand investigations, enforcement, and accountability.
