Albertans will be going to the polls on October 19th. What kinds of questions can you expect? Let’s explore what the questions are really asking.

The question: Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law mandating that only Canadian citizens, permanent residents and individuals with an Alberta-approved immigration status will be eligible for provincially-funded programs, such as health care, education and other social services?

What is this really asking?
This question asks if newcomers to Canada and to Alberta should be charged a fee to access essential services related to healthcare, education and social services.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6: Treaty No. 6 includes commitments to health and wellbeing. Changing who can access essential services raises questions about how those commitments would be upheld.

CT6’s recommendation:
Vote No.

Shared land. Shared responsibility.

Stronger Together. Treaty Forever.
