🌳🪲 Help Protect Alberta’s Ash Trees! 🪲🌳
Neighbours can play an important role in helping monitor and protect our urban forest from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive insect that threatens ash trees across Canada.
A new community monitoring project is encouraging residents to learn how to identify and report signs of Emerald Ash Borer activity in Alberta. Early detection is critical in helping municipalities respond quickly and protect vulnerable trees.
🎥 Be sure to watch the short video explaining the program, what to look for, and how you can help monitor ash trees in your neighbourhood.
Signs to watch for include:
🌿 Canopy thinning or branch dieback
🪵 Bark splitting or unusual shoots growing from the trunk
🐦 Woodpecker damage on bark
🕳️ Distinctive D-shaped exit holes
🐛 Visible insect activity on or near ash trees
If you notice possible signs of Emerald Ash Borer, you can submit photos and observations through the project page below to support local monitoring efforts.
